I’m sort of amused that McCarthy is trying to justify the whole spying, and later coup attempt, as though it was Obama’s DUTY to do it. When every last one of them, including Obloviate, knew the evil scheme was a hit job to prevent Trump’s election. And failing that, to drum up a phony case to remove him from office. To MY mind, this makes McCarthy a post facto ENABLER, assisting in the cover-up. His mealy-mouthed book be damned!

McCarthy is not trying to justify anything. He is pointing out that since the coup attempt took the form of a counterintelligence operation, Obama almost had to be in the loop. So far he has avoided scrutiny.

I saw the interview with McCarthy, and he was NOT in any way trying to justify Obamas’s role in Spygate. He was simply pointing out that ANY counter-intelligence operation involving foreign entities has to be authorized by the president.
McCarthy was making the case that Spygate WAS a counter-intelligence operation, undertaken to first prevent Trump from getting elected, and then get him removed from office.
IOW, its WAS an attempted coup, handled primarily Brennan!
