North Carolina's Dem governor vetoes bill requiring police cooperation with ICE on illegal immigrants

In vetoing a bill calling for better state and local cooperation with U.S. immigration authorities, North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper is favoring the interests of illegal immigrants over basic public safety, the state's Republicans argued Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, Cooper, a Democrat, nixed a proposal that would have made it mandatory for state and local law enforcement to comply with detainer requests from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Under the plan, sheriff’s offices and other law enforcement departments would have been required to hold detainees who are illegal immigrants until ICE personnel could come retrieve them. Those who did not honor the requests would have been subject to dismissal, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Former Gov. Pat McCrory (R) should run against him again.

Cooper, former Atty Gen’l, won the governor’s race in a squeaker. Now he’s telling state law enforcement not to cooperate with federal law enforcement?!

Damn this is N Carolina. Unbelievable what mass immigration from south American and the middle east, along with leftist North Easterners moving to better places has done to a lot of solidly red states. Losing Virginia makes me sad..and not even losing it to southern or moderate dems but hard core leftist carpet baggers.

“Law enforcement officers have a sworn responsibility to protect their citizens — and that includes cooperating with federal authorities,” state Sen. Chuck Edwards, a Republican from Henderson County, told The News & Observer of Raleigh. “Governor Cooper, who prefers to pander to his far-left supporters, we will protect North Carolinians and plan to override his irresponsible veto.”

He was only elected by a few votes when a judge ruled that Democrat Durham County could keep the polls open extra hours.

Hey, North Carolina. Elections aren’t jokes. You need to keep Democrats out of power. Thanks!

McCrory lost when he supported paying for the widening of I77 north of Charlotte with tolls administered by a foreign company. Enough votes switched in the highly populated counties along the highway to swing the election to Cooper. In addition the bathroom law, which McCrory supported, created a national furor, costing the state convention and tourism money and filling Cooper’s campaign coffers with out of state money and the streets with community organizers. The Democrats and media also successfully tied him to the coal ash environmental issues and his former employer (Duke Energy) dragging its feet with respect to the cleanup of the sites leaking poisons into waterways. Finally McCrory ran a typical lackluster moderate GOP defensive campaign against an aggressive and well funded Democrat candidate who adroitly capitalized on real and manufactured issues with support of the state and national media. The election was targeted by the Democrat party and social justice organizations seeking to shift NC blue. McCrory as well as the state and national GOP did not rise to the challenge.

You can bet we’ll see a similar push by Democrats to defeat the lackluater first term GOP senator Thom Tillis in 2020 and pick up the seat of retiring GOP Senator Burr in 2022. If the GOP runs Bush establishment candidates, NC will be join Virginia as a blue state by 2022. Liberal whites are migrating into NC cities from other states in droves. The state’s legal and illegal immigrant population is also growing rapidly and the large black population can be counted on to vote solidly Democrat. Demographics is destiny.

Great points, as a twenty year yankee living in Charlotte I’ve seen this town go completely into a one party town. Unfortunately McCrory fell into their trap with the bathroom furor and was shanked by the business leaders he was buddy-buddy with for years. Let’s not forget that last minute vote dump from Durham too. Burr is pathetic with his role in keeping the phony Russia investigation alive, and Tillis would have vetoed the bill same as Cooper if he could have, as an open borders RINO.

But the worst of all is the illegal- enabling Sherriff McPhadden, he should be locked up in his own jail.

Of course he wants to do what your alien said he’ll pick tobacco and the other crops from North Carolina and he wants to get buses and take them to the polls even if there is illegal to vote for him. It is sad that Charlotte has imported so many morons who vote Democrat.
