Trump will raise tariff rates on Chinese goods in response to trade war retaliation
CNBC ^ | 08/23/2019 | Jacob Pramuck

President Donald Trump said the U.S. will hike tariffs on most imports from China as his trade war with Beijing escalates. The U.S. will raise duties on $250 billion in Chinese goods to 30% from 25%, and increase tariffs on another $300 billion in products to 15% from 10%. Earlier, China announced new tariffs on $75 billion in U.S. goods — and Trump ordered U.S. companies to find an “alternative” to operating in China.

Works for me. I’d rather pay more for less and pay Americans anyways.

I do not like tariffs in general, but we’re in a Cold War with China.

Go Trump!

No US business can complain because they just pass the tax on to consumers (as they always say), so COC—SHUT UP!

They're a tax, no different than any other tax. They're just revenue.

Heard today that in private talks Trump is not worried about china and thinks that even if all trade with china stopped it would not necessarily be a bad thing.

I couldn’t agree more. For years we have been buying the rope they intend to hang us with.

I’d rather pay more for less and pay Americans anyways.

You don't have to make that choice anyway.

Buy stuff made here, and you pay Americans for their products rather than to collect unemployment benefits, you support our infrastructure spending, and you support our military.

Buy stuff made in China, and you pay Americans to collect unemplyment benefits, you pay for China's military, and you pay for China's infrastructure.

On top of all of that you pay for borrowed money to pay for their stuff. Remember those economic stimulus checks we got from President Bush. It was a nice idea, but the money was borrowed from China, and the stuff we bought with it was made in China. That money bounced around in retail for a while, but in the end we paid China twice, once for the products, and again when we paid back the money we borrowed.

As far as I'm concerned when you factor all of this, we end up paying less for American made stuff.

They have a growing food shortage, they’re not importing high tech gadgets and sneakers from us, what they import gets EATEN. And they already blinked - just yesterday:

Just raise them to 50% across the board, and then let China know an embargo is an option too.

POTUS is too afraid of price increase in the US for Chinese goods. He’s showing weakness.

No wonder the Chinese are upping the ante. They do not fear us.

And that tells you how important it is to bring them to their knees.

I'd say it's a symbiotic relationship.
