Solve two problems at once; build factories and facilities in South America (Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua etc.) and import the goods from there, plus give the local populations a reason to stay there and build their own countries up because their economies and standard of life improves. The biggest problem in most of these countries is corruption at all levels of government (the worst being at the local level because it goes under the radar). Make the investments contingent on oversight of where the money is going.

[If it comes to that, cheap goods we’re getting from China will probably come from other low-wage countries that don’t mind dealing with us a bit more fairly. ]

Even if the trade with these countries is lopsided, they probably don’t have nukes aimed at our cities.

We wouldn’t give let the Russians run a massive trade surplus against us. Why would we let the Chinese do so?

They are shitholes. The reason so many business owners build in East Asia despite the added distance and transportation costs comes down to extreme labor strife in Latin America, out of control crime (murders, kidnappings, robberies) and unbelievable levels of payoffs needed just to operate. China has higher labor and land costs than Latin America (with the exception of Chile).

Can someone explain to me, so I can explain to my libtard cousin, how the tariffs are paid by China? He keeps posting that consumers pay the tariffs, but we know that’s clearly not true because Trump makes China pay. Is it that China has to pay 10% when they sell the goods, or something else. I’m dealing with a real idiot here.

POTUS spent a lifetime understanding the bottom line, that’s what happens when you sign the front of the check instead of the back.

If you are in business and don’t understand economics you are not in business very long.

Trump doesn’t shoot himself in the foot.

After markets closed, Trump weighed in with the latest escalation in the trade war – slapping new tariffs on billions of additional Chinese products.

Starting October 1, $250 billion in Chinese products now being tariffed at 25 per cent would be hit with a 30 per cent tariff. And $300 billion in goods being hit with a 10 per cent tariff staring Sept. 1 will now be hit with a 15 per cent tariff, Trump Tweeted.

‘Thank you for your attention to this matter! Trump concluded at the end of a day that had traders and economies around the world on edge.

Earlier, he said the U.S. was ‘better off’ without China.

9 Heard today that in private talks Trump is not worried about china and thinks that even if all trade with china stopped it would not necessarily be a bad thing. I couldn’t agree more. For years we have been buying the rope they intend to hang us with.

Looks like we might be heading into a full blown trade war. A lot depends on what other western countries do to undercut us, as they are doing by purchasing Huawei 5g infrastructure. But Trump is causing short term damage by forcing China to devalue their currency, and long term damage by successfully encouraging manufacturers to move or consider moving out of China to Vietnam, Thailand, India, Taiwan, etc, and in rare cases back to the USA. The Chinese are caught between 2 major cultural traits. First, they hate to lose face, and backing down to Trump would be a major loss. On the other hand, they are very patient, and look to to long term goals as opposed to the west’s desire for instant gratification. But they are not THAT patient. If this trade war goes on for very long it could set them back decades, and losing it could bring down both their government and their economy.

Maybe they think they will outlast Trump, and deal with a more compliant POTUS in 2021. It will be interesting to see what happens when the “free press” and social media/tech giants are openly collaborating with China next year to change the outcome of an election...

Trump is the only president who recognized the problem and is trying to do something about it. I love that guy! I think patriotic Americans should back him up.

Hope this helps.

The owner of ten motels needs to buy an alarm clock for each room, and has been paying $15.00 each.

He finds some coming from China that are priced at $12.00 each and places an order from China.

There is now a tariff put on those alarm clocks but the buyer will no pay more than $12.00 each, so China incorporates the tariff and keeps the price at $12.00, making less of a profit.

The buyer sees no price increase and the seller (China)pays the tariff. As tariffs increase China pays more until it can’t make the sale because it would lose money.

China loses, we win.

Over the last 100+ years, the Left has given the federal government license to rape America economically and they have done just that. The propaganda arm of the feds, the Lying Leftist Media, keeps people away from realizing the REAL cause of our economic problems - the feds.

China is politically a threat to be taken seriously and dealt with seriously. But economically, China is an easy straw-man. Part of the reason is the confusion between the free market and national political sovereignty and the Lying Leftist Media helps keep that confusion going.

Might help to start with the underlying core economic issues.

Federally protected unions, high taxes, regulations, minimum wage, subsidies, and a weak dollar all have converged to “bind and gag” American business and drive industry from our shores. Kill these mostly unconstitutional and boneheaded acts and policies and you’ve gone a long way to fixing the problem. Trump has directly addressed some of these problems. ALL need to be abolished.

Tariffs are a palliative, not curative, measure. They make people feel good as though something is really being done to help our economy. But tariffs absolutely fail to address the ROOT causes of our economic woes and why businesses have fled the U.S. THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, not the EU, China, or the Man in the Moon, is the MAIN reason for our failure to compete in the marketplace.

If China keeps the price at $12 in your example they are not paying for the tariffs. Tariffs are imposed at the point of entry to the U.S. and are paid by the importer (U.S.)...the only way China would “pay” is if they reduced the price of the product by the same % as the tariff.

As a, ‘Grow Your Own Veggies, Raise Your Own Meat, Cook Your Own Food, Buy Clothes on the Second Hand Market’ kind of gal, the LESS Chinese CR@P that ends up in OUR landfills, the better!

However, we need to brace ourselves for the Tech End of this, as there will be price hikes on cellphones (I have a flip-phone, I’m not smart enough for a Smart phone, LOL!) and computers (I LOVE my computer and it makes $ for me from home) and other ‘stuff’ that makes my life easier while I’m growing stuff and raising stuff and cooking and shopping at Thrift Stores, etc.

I TOTALLY support President Trump on this - and I predict the Chi-Coms CAVE sooner than later.

Trump. 2020. Landslide. MAGA! KAG! :)
