WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration is planning to open a U.S. consulate in Greenland for the first time in decades amid increased strategic and economic interest in the Danish territory.

The State Department says in a letter to Congress that reestablishing a consulate in Greenland is part of a broader plan to increase the U.S. presence in the Arctic.

I’m sure this will be a coveted assignment.

President Trump never asks a second favor once he's refused the first, understood?

It was closed in 1953. No mention if it was done at the end of Truman’s administration, or at the beginning of Eisenhower’s administration.

The anti Trumpers can laugh all they want. Meanwhile the Chicoms are moving in on the natural resources in Greenland. And while they’re there It’s not a stretch that they’re spying on Thule.

I sense the Old Man has something up his sleeve. He wants Greenland as a US territory.

The US tried to buy Greenland before buying Alaska. No telling where Trump will take this issue.

But I am certain that I don't want to bet against him. He's a master at negotiating.

As he always does, he pre-positions the players he sees involved in the deal where he wants them on the battlefield, before he really turns it on.

He's been dancing with this gal from Denmark. She turned heal huffed "no way" to Trump when he said he'd like to buy it. But now they're talking again. Wink, wink. Trump's getting ready to make the next move.

Trump's playing in familiar territory, negotiating the purchase of land and assets. It would be a brilliant move for national security and military purposes.

If anybody can do it, Trump can.

“The US tried to buy Greenland before buying Alaska. “

I believe you are confusing Alaskan statehood with the actual purchase of Alaska from the Russians in 1867.

Negotiations can be long and difficult but profitable in the end. Stay tuned.

All the other theories aside, I'm betting that once Trump gets Greenland and all the liberal yowling and moaning stops, libs are going to start looking at is as a potential Utopia. Socialized regional government, socialized medicine, no guns, all those little dysfunctional ideas and failures they've been pining over for decades. Give them semi-autonomous rule, just as Denmark has, and let them fly in by the planeload. A land mass the quarter the size of the continental United States should hold the worst of them all quite nicely. Like moths to a flame - a whole new frontier to bespoil, and nobody but about 55,000 Inuits between them and their goal. Problem is, the USA will be kitting it out as an economic and strategic Arctic base of operations right in their back yards. Tough noogies. It's a win-win. Plus, it's a U.S. protectorate and sovereign territory, not a state - if the usual far-Left rabble get too unruly, we can just roll up a newspaper and smack them on the nose. Right there is a new home for the defectives, degenerates, and mentally infirm polluting this society, and America can get back to it's common cultural and national business. It won't be quick and it won't be easy, but in the end, it'll all fall into place naturally. The Left's puppetmasters know they wouldn't win CW II with an army of undisciplined, mentally dysfunctional, thrashing and raging pussy hats, nose rings, Pajama boys, Third World ruffians, and BLM/Antifa types running the streets and burning buildings, so they'll take whatever route they can to try and establish a solid grip somewhere. Then we can strip them naked and throw them into the snow with the rest as soon as they instigate.

And right there is my platform for Viking2002 for President in 2024.

#6. Trump is going head to head with the ChiComs who have moved into Western territory from Africa to Latin America and now Greenland (NATOland). About time we had an American president who understood the “existential threat” the Red Chinese military/govt poses to the U.S.

I want the “Elkburger” concession at the new Trump Hotel in Greenland. As I said before, the waiter will as “Do you want lichen with that?”

There are 56000 some odd people in Greenland. They have the right under Danish law to gain independence through a referendum. That isn’t a lot of people to convince. It is a town election. They desperately want a decent airport in Thule. The current runway is 950 meters. Only small planes can land there. Want to bet our new embassy there has a couple of long runways so AF1 can land for the Thule Trump rally before the referendum. This way the Danes don’t get a dime and any money that would have been paid goes directly into Greenland. (Denmark subsidy is $12500 per head per year) We pumped 95 billion into Puerto Rico after the storm. 95 billion into Greenland would be $1.7 million per head. Just a thought.

The Boring Company or other tunnelers may have extensive contracts down the road. Avoid tunnels in the unstable ice as attempted once before.

If the Danish Government had half a functioning brain....they would lease Greenland, 100 years, to the USA for an annual lease fee, and a percentage piece of the financial gain that would come from American leadership, business and strategy, and, keep the ownership. Greenland is ready to take major steps forward in multiple development activity...not to mention being a protector of American national security!!! Sadly...methinks the Danish nation is asleep at the wheel...across the board!!! POTUS, Trump is right on target...as he usually is!!!

part of a broader plan to increase the U.S. presence in the Arctic.

Now if only we had the heavy ice breakers necessary to go with that plan ... one mostly broken down one does not count, and the 3 ‘planned’ will not see operation for a decade.

Meanwhile both Russia and China are building or buying new ones - including nuclear powered ones - at a record pace.

I am not confused.

Secretary of State William Seward tried to buy Greenland and Iceland in 1868 but the proposal went nowhere in the Senate.

But we must be careful.

Moving too many of our military there might cause it to flip over.

No, he has it right. Occurred under the Andrew Johnson administration. Steward, Sec of State, was the outfront man. In addition to purchasing Alaska he expressed interest in purchasing Greenland and Iceland.
