I recently was on the Cold War Conversations podcast discussing my book GPS Declassified and my fathers role in the early space program and the invention of GPS.
It turned out that the accuracy at that time wasn't really adequate for logging and returning to some of our favorite deep underwater fish-holding spots...
We actually had better results combining compass triangulation, the rudimentary depth sounders of the time, and good ol' eyeball and fishing line feedback.
