I don’t understand the reason, have them work on their island getting it back together, these people are needed at home. Even if they are not skilled, still need people to move debris, clean buildings/homes, cook/prepare food for the people working, etc.

This is stupid and counter productive.

Ever watch bar rescue? They did an episode on a bar in Puerto Rico, the host John Tapper, was upset with the owners because they just needed to throw out the rotten food and mop the floors, clean the tables, chairs, etc, it really wasn’t all that damaged and they could have reopened in a week or a few days.

It was pure laziness why that bar did not open, sure they were hit with a hurricane but the people of Puerto Rico had expectations that someone else was going to fly in and the do all the work.

My Dad was in the navy during the War in the Pacific and briefly in the occupation army after Japan surrendered. He told me that the Japanese were like a hive of bees working to clean up and rebuild.

He had been in the Philippines the previous years and said the natives were mostly lounging in the rubble selling souvenirs to the GIs and waiting for them to rebuild.
