Republican Rep. Paul Cook (Calif.) will retire from Congress at the end of this term and run for a seat on the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.

He is the 17th House Republican lawmaker to announce they will not seek reelection in 2020.

Cook was first elected to his House seat in California's 8th Congressional District in 2012, and sits on both the House Armed Services Committee and Natural Resources Committee.

1) He wants to stay close to home and spend time with family,

OR

2) Democrats in Sacramento have redistricted so that he can’t possibly win again.

Something and it hasn’t been addressed here really.

Is it deep state with photos or is it Trump’s people pushing them out?

I hope it’s the second.

I fear it’s the first.

My guess. Trump is showing Republicans that if you fight you can can; or at least throw Democrats off balance and set the terms of the debate.

These people don't want to fight. They believe the way to win is to be nice and compromise.

Just my speculation.

California is the land of ballot harvesting and SEIU controlled California Department of Motor Vehicles (aka motor voter machine). That seat is going to the Democrats.

Well, it's not that. Redistricting won't happen until 2022, after the next census. And, hey, the Supreme Court has pronounced that gerrymandering for partisan advantage is A-OK.

Redistricting and ballot harvesting make it a losing proposition for conservatives in California.

Unless if figured he was going to lose his House seat anyway. Might as well switch to something he can win.

This appears to be a strong Republican district. How else could a Republican get elected in the Kenyans reelection year?

Am I the only one who thinks maybe so many republicans are retiring because they believe it is a safe time to do so? They are confident that a red wave or even red consistency will keep their district in safe hands?

Must have made enough money.

From what I've been able to find out, San Bernardino County Supervisors make almost as much as a Congressman does. Without the travel and the two residences and all the rest. Probably a raise in salary for a fraction of the aggravation.

Cook is a worthless open borders dirtbag who just wants to keep feeding at the public trough. Well at least we get rid of this US Chamber slimeball.
