Ted Cruz Rejects White House/DOJ Universal Background Check Plan
Breitbart ^ | September 18, 2019 | AWR HAWKINS

Posted on 09/19/2019 2:35:25 AM PDT by familyop

Breitbart News reported that the memo largely mirrored Sen. Joe Manchin’s (D-WV) gun control bill and would require the issuance of a “bill of sale” and the preservation of a “chain of title” for gun sales that do not currently require government oversight. The Hill reports that Attorney General William Barr tried to talk Sen. Cruz into supporting the gun control, but Cruz would not.

Yes, the White House proposal, if passed and signed, would be a setup for Democrats to later create and mandate a national registry. Blink, and see what happens.

I remember some time ago when Barr was being considered for AG and some here on FR were trying to sound the alarm about him being a big anti-2nd Amendment guy ... well I guess we are seeing his true colors on this now.

Not someone we should have as AG.

An update from the White House: Hogan Gidley tells me that just because WH legislative director Eric Ueland is among those pushing this on the Hill, it does NOT mean Trump himself has signed off on it. "Not even close."

IOW this is A trial balloon to gauge the reaction from Pres. Trump's base.

Ted Cruz is about 2% annoying, and he’s very bothersome when that happens (for example, blaming Trump for the far-left violence at Trump rallies during the campaign). He’s also one of the best we have 98% of the time. Thank God for Ted Cruz!

“The person who agrees with you 80 percent of the time is a friend and an ally, not a 20 percent traitor.”
- Ronald Reagan

Ted Cruz is way above Reagan’s 80% threshold. We should cheer for him more often.

the President may be supporting cruise by making him look strong on the 2nd.       I don't think President Trump holds a grudge, and appreciates what a strong cruise can do for us.

It seems strange that Trump would bare his neck over a gun control bill and jeopardize his presidency. For absolutely nothing.

President Trump has been prone to making fatal mistakes during his candidacy and tenure.     /s

Attorney General Nominee William Barr Voices Support for Gun Confiscation

Did Trump just nominate a gun-grabber for Attorney General?

Barr said of Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs), otherwise known as red flag gun confiscation laws, which give police the authority to raid your home and seize your guns: "...We need to push along the ERPOs (Extreme Risk Protection Orders), so we have these red flag laws to supplement the use of the background check to find out if someone has some mental disturbance. This is the single most important thing I think we can do in the gun control area to stop these massacres from happening in the first place." Feinstein, who has introduced gun control legislation numerous times since she was elected in 1992 and recently re-introduced a so-called “assault weapons” ban, heartily approved. “Thank you, I’d like to work with you in that regard,” Feinstein said.

Bagpipe should focus a little more on rounding up and arresting the coup plotters and less on violating the Constitution.

to find out if someone has some mental disturbance.

if your next door neighbor had a known mental disorder (previous commitment or conviction) would you want his firearm purchase flagged?

the problem with red flag is how it is implemented--public safety or tyranny.

The problem with red flag laws is that they have not been declared unconstitutional!

"...if your next door neighbor had a known mental disorder (previous commitment or conviction) would you want his firearm purchase flagged?"

Red flag laws are about taking any guns he or she might have away, not preventing them from buying one.

ERPO's will be determined by "doctors," and doctors are nowadays de facto government compelled, if not government controlled

Given that the largest group of professionals that were not just Germans, but also NSDAP (Nazi) party members were doctors, this does not give me warm fuzzies. Just as government has made schools into indoctrination camps and employers into tax collectors, they are turning health care providers into weapons of the state.

Land of the free, my ass.

IOW this is A trial balloon to gauge the reaction from Pres. Trump's base.

Trial balloon? You mean 'Trial Buffoon'.

Trump doesn't need any trial balloons to 'gauge reaction from his base'.

President Trump knows that any laws that lead to a 'national gun registry' is DOA with his base and with any thinking American that wants to be safe from tyranny.

Trial Balloon?

My response: Deal Breaker

Any proposal that leads to universal recordkeeping, which is necessary to the creation of a national registry, is a deal breaker. I will not support any policy or any politician who facilitates the creation of a national registry, because I firmly believe that will mean the end of the United States as a free country.
