Impeachment Inquiry Backlash Boosts GOP’s Bevin in Kentucky Governor Race
Breitbart ^ | October 16, 2019 | MICHAEL PATRICK LEAHY

Voter backlash against the Democrat impeachment inquiry of President Trump and strong support for the president in Kentucky appear to be key factors helping Republican Gov. Matt Bevin in his re-election battle against Democrat challenger Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear.

Bevin, first elected governor in November 2015, is seeking a second four-year term as governor and faces Beshear in a November 5 general election.

A poll released by Maxon-Dixon Polling & Strategy on Wednesday shows that Bevin has pulled into a tie with Beshear, a significant improvement from the eight point deficit he had in the race as measured in a poll released by the same firm in December 2018.

“Republican Governor Matt Bevin has pulled into a tie with Democratic challenger Andy Beshear. Statewide, 46% of likely voters now support Bevin and 46% back Beshear. At the beginning of the year, Beshear held a 48%-40% lead over Bevin,” Mason-Dixon reported in its poll summary.

Bevin is bringing Republican voters back into the fold, with his GOP support increasing from 67% in December to 77% at present. Bevin is also receiving a stronger cross-over vote, drawing 22% of Democrats compared to Beshear’s 15% from Republicans. . .

Bevin’s resurgence could be attributed to President Donald Trump’s popularity in Kentucky and strong resistance to his impeachment among its voters. Statewide, 57% approve of Trump’s performance as president and 65% oppose efforts to impeach and remove him from office.

The poll of 625 registered voters was conducted between October 10 and 13, and has a four point margin of error.

“Bevin has made a concerted push to bring the possible impeachment of Trump into the campaign news cycles, and the Mason-Dixon poll shows evidence that most agree with the governor’s stance against such a move by Congress,” the Louisville Courier-Journal reported...

Good. That's why I don't believe these polls.

Registered voters instead of likely voters. LV almost always favors Republicans so it looks good.

Anyone in KY going to tell me why a first term R governor would ever be in trouble for re-election in the first place? IS there some sort of scandal or something going on? Because otherwise, I am hard pressed to understand how the D ever would have had any lead.

Or is this all just bogus polling?

The big issue is that Bevin is trying to fix the broken Kentucky Retirement System and the Teacher’s Retirement System. It is a mess after not being properly funded and mismanaged by decades of democrat control. The teacher’s union has always been a pawn of the democrats and is leading the charge. The teachers are too stupid (but I repeat myself) to see that if a fix isn’t made that there won’ be anything down the road.

Democrats keep screwing up. They’re completely blind to what’s going on.

Same backlash helped President Clinton and the Democrats back in 1998.

This is helping the GOP around the country. LA last weekend wasn’t a fluke.

Me thinks that the president needs to travel to get some bourbon in the near future. It may not be necessary for the win, but a slam dunk would send a powerful statement.

We don’t yet have a lock on statewide offices like we do on the electoral votes for President. We haven’t had a GOP Attorney General since the 1950’s.

West Virginia is similar.

I thought Bevin was toast after the issues with the teachers. But again, it is a republican trying to fix years of democratic demise in the pension system. But I think Bevin has a great shot to win re-election. And the KY House and Senate have gone Republican over the last 10 years, so would be great.

Yea if remember, Bevin was 7 points behind on election eve polls and won by 4-5.

Bevin won by 9, actually.

Bevin’s main problem was his comment about the teachers demonstrating in Frankfort that would lead to sexual abuse of children that severely damaged his personal popularity.

But, the campaign ads have effectively moved things back to being more about the issues than personality and Bevin is regaining footing as a result as more people learn how far to the left Beshear is.

Still makes me wonder what in heck those 15% of registered Republican voters are thinking. Hope they are sufficiently clueless and confused to not be part of the likely voter subset.
