Bottom line he made it clear he was FORCED by parliament to send that letter requesting the delay but he will refuse to engage the EU on the topic

Very smart move. Very interesting situation. Will the EU vote in accordance with the UK government or their parliament?

Will clearly show whether the UK Goverment is respected or not.

Ten bucks says that the Swamp Creatures in Brussels have the authority to accept *anything* sent from London, signed or unsigned.Eve if it's written on toilet paper they can accept it.

IOW,I'll wager that it's the EU who will declare Britain to be out.Until they do Britain's considered to be in...whether they like it or not.

Kinda like the USSR...or China and Taiwan.

If the EU approves the “request” for the delay it will set a precedent of ignoring the request from a PM of a member Nation opting to side with a request from the vote count of the Parliament which is acting AGAINST the will of the PEOPLE that parliament is supposed to represent.

Get a big bowl of popcorn for this one.

Exactly my point. Furthermore it opens up the argument whether the EU respects the will of the PEOPLE or the SWAMP

The ball is in the EU’s court right at the moment.

They may choose to accept the unsigned letter and grant a delay. There’s nothing stopping them doing that.

They may choose to instead accept that Boris Johnson’s letter supersedes it.

They may just decide they do not care anymore and not pay any attention to any letter at all and just say “No more delays.”

It only takes one member state to veto the request for the extension and that is it. One member state to be fed up and say “Enough is enough.”

An extension can only be granted by the unanimous agreement of all the member states (except the UK - it can’t veto its own request, or I suspect Johnson would try doing that!) - if one disagrees, that’s the ball game.

At the moment - I wouldn’t dare make a prediction.

My hope is the UK gets out on the 31st October but I don’t feel confident one way or the other.

Interesting. Which if the 27 members would be most likely to support the PEOPLE of the UK and their PM? That being said I think Boris Johnson SHOULD be able to VETO the request of HIS parliament in his capacity as the EU member.

Parliament treats Boris just like the Dems treat President Trump.

Agreed. But the question remains. Does the PM in his capacity of the EU member have the authority to vote no / veto the request contained in his own unsigned letter? I would say yes.

I’ll make a prediction: If Brexit was indeed one of the reasons for the EU’s and the UK’s involvement in Spygate, it’ll be a cold day in Hell before the EU allows the UK to leave.

And a note to the UK: If you somehow manage to find the guts and gumption to Brexit, I’d do it and make those awesome trade deals with Trump fast, before the American public finds out just what the hell your government was up to. Because, I suspect, the American public will be a whole lot less forgiving than our president.

There in lies the question. Can the EU force a member to remain a member? Or does the EU wield that much power over their members to essentially disapprove an exit by allowing an unsigned forced / arguably illegitimate “request” ? Kinda like a bank cashing an unsigned check when the account holder has informed the bank that the check was written against their will and refused to sign it.

“IOW,I’ll wager that it’s the EU who will declare Britain to be out.Until they do Britain’s considered to be in...whether they like it or not.”

That’s not at all what is going on.

The EU and Boris got a deal to leave on the 31st, they are trying to help Boris get it through by denying Remainers in Parliament a delay.

The EU wants Britain out and this over, it is the Remainers in Parliament who are drawing this out.

If that is true they can simply VETO the request for delay on the grounds the request is not signed. Done

If they approve the unsigned request then clearly they are forcing the UK to remain a member despite their request to Brexit

The “Remainers” in UK parliament do not have legal standing in the EU and therefore THEIR request is out of order.

In my not so humble opinion

If one choose to argue that UK parliament votes supercede the authority of the UK government then the same argument can be made that the will of the UK People supercede the VOTE of their parliament

Not to mention the VETO power of the EXECUTIVE should require a higher vote threshold to over ride as well as JUDICIAL concurrence whatever that looks like in the UK.

The US has a clear process for this does anyone know what that looks like in this case?
