Romney asked for and got Trump’s endorsement for Senator. Romney did not criticize Trump in the runup to the election.
But on the day before he took office in January, Romney wrote a highly critical article about Trump in the Washington Post.
In other words, Mitt Romney is a snake.

Yeah, and they made a mistake. The people are looking at the Mormons sent to Washington (Harry Reid, Jeff Flake, and now Romney) and are thinking Mormons can’t be trusted. I don’t think that is what they meant to happen but it’s now what many are thinking.

When Romney came out during the 2016 primary season with that absolutely despicable, vicious diatribe against then candidate Trump, he revealed his innermost self. Based on that screed alone, there is no doubt in my mind that Pierre’s Mittens ran for senate specifically to be a thorn in Trump’s side. He even tried to get the SecState job to be in a position to undercut the new President, but Trump is too smart to have fallen for that. So no one should be surprised at Romney’s behavior now.
His approval rating in Utah went negative in the wake of Pierre so maybe there’s a glimmer of hope.
If Pierre wants to beat Trump so badly he should just switch democrat and run in the primary.
