Some people think it’s all meaningless, because no jury within a 100 miles of DC will convict anyone of doing anything against Trump.
But that’s not the point.
There’s a saying: “You might beat the rap, but you won’t beat the ride”. Meaning that just the process of defending yourself against criminal charges is a big punishment. Just ask General Flynn.
Once the indictments happen, then there will be a whole bunch of low-level swamp creatures who will have to retain lawyers, and face perjury charges if they fail to tell all they know on the witness stand. It will go on, and on, and on into 2020.
As a carry on effect they'll have less spare cash available for political donations. A virtuous circle. Momentum works both ways.

And the government and press have gone a step beyond that, where innuendo is sufficient to trigger “the process.”
