THE FORCE FAILS, BIG TIME, IN ‘RISE OF SKYWALKER’
Hollywood in Toto ^ | 18 Dec 2019 | Christian Toto

"I got a bad feeling about this …”

Yes, that fan service line reappears in “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.” The ninth and final film in the space saga teems with Easter eggs, shout outs and other franchise-friendly nods.

Director J.J. Abrams’ film also feels rushed and yet far too long, complex without the nuance that accompanies the word.

Saddest of all? Several key plot devices are so clunky audiences may laugh out loud as a result. This critic sure did.

Is this any way to cap the biggest pop culture franchise of the modern era? Where do we send the apology cards to “The Last Jedi?”

One more Star Wars review, just to put the final nail in the coffin.

The numbers indicate they will make plenty of money.

Last Jedi was so bad that it killed a 40 year old franchise. Pretty impressive really.

I’ve been watching The Mandalorian series and have found it to be surprisingly tolerable.

I really enjoyed Rise of Skywalker. The audience score on rottentomatoes.com also confirm it’s well liked.

Ridiculous and misleading headline.

$179 million dollar first weekend...something like the 3rd best in the history of movies in December. Projected to make over $600 million domestic and over $1 billion world wide. This will, again, be one of the most popular movies in the history of the world.

Ridiculous and misleading headline.

The last time I was excited about Star Wars was right after I saw “The Empire Strikes Back” in the theater. By the time “Return of the Jedi” came out, I was too old to be excited by dancing Ewoks and the general corniness of that episode, though I continued to love the first two movies. Then Lucas decided to make his terrible prequels, destroying Star Wars forever, and now Kathleen Kennedy and Disney are just making the rubble bounce.

In the end, money talks and soyboys walk.

Metacritic hasn’t been too kind.

After Capt. Marvel I don’t care about Rotten Tomatoes.

I highly recommend the YouTube channel, “The Critical Drinker”. His critique on the “Rise of Skywalker” is comical and thought provoking.

And I’ve seen this flick...it was a mess.

Not really. I will repeat myself. I loathe misleading and fake headlines.

It’s not too late to save this thing.

CATS needs help, too.

Let’s combine them!

CATS OF SKYWALKER!

Please don’t forget Lucas later destroyed the first 3 movies by editing in distracting and childish effects that added nothing. Including having stupid creatures walk in FRONT of the stars.

When you add re-shoots, principle photography and advertising this movie can easily cost about 500 million.

They’re gonna need about a billion to break even.

Current weekend projections show they’re making less than “The Last Jedi” (and China is a bust). Not a good start.

Disney has already lost money from Star Wars given their continued misfiring and alienation of the fanbase. They were delusional thinking the Chinese market was ever going to be viable to them, and foreign markets hate it just as much as American fans.

The Japanese have been excoriating the movie.

It would be ironic if “Joker” makes more money than “The Rise of Skywalker”.

Way down from The Last Jedi’s opening of 220 million. And that opening weekend was riding on the good will they has earned up until that point. This thing is “Plan 9 from outer space” with a 300 million dollar budget.

Back in 1977, Star Wars was the first movie I really remember seeing as a kid.

I never thought 40 years later I would want the last movie to lose money.

Yes, the ‘Farce’ is dead !

They way overused this line in the series... “I got a bad feeling about this …”

Absolutely no interest in going to see this one.

Luke has gone from Hero to evil villain, mass murderer.

Leia and Hans failed in their relationship and created a child that is trying to kill them....

And apparently Rey is related to the arch evil character. I suppose now she must kill him and then replace him as the next ultimate evil in the galaxy !
