Posted on 01/09/2020 4:00:21 AM PST by Freedom of Speech Wins
Referring to it with happy little buzzwords such as climate justice, the city of Portland will soon be implementing the first (and hopefully only) green new deal carbon tax in the nation, which city leaders estimate will suck $60 million out of the economy. The money will allegedly be going toward creating green energy jobs. They say the tax will only affect The Evil Corporations specifically referring to Walmart.

Watch Portland live to regret it as it morphs into a ghost town
You loonies out on the left coast really just want to leave your cities occupied by the homeless and the illegals. What sound minded CEO would want to keep doing business with those Communists?
Early stages of socialism being exhibited here. Soon Portland will wonder why these large, evil corporations move their physical footprint outside of their jurisdiction. I would expect the corporations involved to mount a legal challenge or pass on the tax to the consumer.
The Stupid is strong in Portland. Either Walmart pulls up stakes or Walmart raises their prices and the citizens of Portland pay for their insanity.
Reopen all the state mental hospitals (all states) Start by committing the politicians purposely destroying America. Then most of the homeless
Good for Portland. Send some of your jobs here
The biggest corporations in Portland is Intel and Nike.
When Intel installed solar arrays in rainy Portland, you knew something was up.
Portland has been trying to steal land from Nike and increase taxes on Intel for a long time.
Once you understand that, the insanity of the Lefts ideology makes sense.
There's no reason we can't go after natural gas.
Most of them. Most CEO’s of larger companies are socialists/fascists. By being that way, they get governments to eliminate their competitors through taxation and regulation.
Ahh, yes, this time the plan WON’T FAIL. Since it turned out that simply assessing and referring work to contractors ran $6,000 per home (other companies do the job for under $200), THIS time with much more money to waste than the 30 million blown from Obama & state funds from last time, it’ll be MUCH different.
Translation: If a retailer sells more than $500,000 locally and a billion nationally, all their retail sales are taxed 1 percent. And since corporations do not generate money, this means those who are supposed to be helped by this program get to pay the majority of the cost while (hahahaha) well intentioned people suck up money into their pockets.
Got me how companies are going to handle it; there’s no sales tax to toss a surcharge onto. I assume Portland hopes that most companies just suck it up and the whole country gets to pay for it (as corporations do not generate income, they charge consumers for their overhead/profit, so all corporate taxes are paid for by consumers as a part of the cost of goods.)
I guess Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Target, Walmart, etc can either change prices in Portland or change the size of products sold nationally to take into account the Portland tax. Either way, the people targeted for the benefits will end up paying for it (it just is a question as to how many more people they take with them.)
Does this mean Portland will actually pick up the garbage that is all over their streets and parks? Portland is the filthiest city I visit for business. Trash everywhere because of the homeless bums living in the street and parks.
It’s not carbon, it’s carbon dioxide. Carbon enters into chemical combination with other elements to form complex molecules, without which life would be impossible.
Logically then, they need to tax breathing by animals, because that emits carbon dioxide.
a tax is a tax is a tax
green energy jobs are great....... just ask Soylandra employees
The green fight is always who, who receives the ill gotten gains. Some fat cat with a large mansion, an elite's yacht, no,
send me my green money !!
Because $15 an hour minimum wage worked so well....
“Start by committing the politicians purposely destroying America. Then most of the homeless”
Lock them up together.
Intel and Nike and Chrysler will be passing on their increased cost nationwide because they’re located in Portland but their products are sold everywhere.
It used to be a thriving port city but now the Portland is a leading liberal hellhole with very little appeal for businesses who want to thrive or survive.
