House Passes War Powers Resolution In Rebuke Of Trump's Actions Against Iran

The House of Representatives on Thursday voted in favor of a War Powers Resolution meant to limit President Trump’s military action toward Iran following an escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran.

The resolution passed, 224-194, mostly along party lines, but both parties had some defectors: eight Democrats voted against the measure and three Republicans voted in favor of it. Independent Rep. Justin Amash, who left the Republican Party last year, also voted in favor of the measure.

"We deserve the respect from the administration and that Congress deserves under the Constitution,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said on the House floor. “The Constitution of the United States calls that there be cooperation when initiating hostilities.”

The resolution is non-binding but is meant to reassert congressional authority and rebuke Trump’s decision to take out Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani in a drone strike last Friday while he traveled to an airport in Baghdad, Iraq. Trump did not consult with congressional leaders ahead of the attack that killed the Iranian military leader and afterward sent Congress a notification explaining the rationale but kept it classified.

The resolution “requires the president to consult with Congress 'in every possible instance' before introducing United States Armed Forces into hostilities."

This is the quality of DEMOCRAT congressman that votes on these things.

When America wins, Democrats lose.

NON-BINDING
"Soft law instruments and norms are thus understood as non-binding in international law but binding in some other manner, for instance, politically."

Not One Capitol Hill Reporter Asked Pelosi About ‘Disproportionate’ Force Claim

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) reiterated Thursday her claim that President Donald Trump used “disproportionate” force against Iran — and not one Capitol Hill reporter asked her to explain what she meant.

Pelosi has been claiming since Sunday that Trump used “disproportionate” force when he ordered the air strike last week against Iranian General Qasem Soleimani, leader of the terrorist Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IGRC) Quds Force. The airstrike also killed a pro-Iran Iraqi terrorist, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, deputy commander of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), responsible for recent attacks on the U.S. embassy in Baghdad, Iraq.

The term “disproportionate” has a precise meaning in international humanitarian law, governing conduct in war. According to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), “proportionality” prohibits “launching an attack which may be expected to cause incidental loss of civilian life, injury to civilians, damage to civilian objects, or a combination thereof, which would be excessive in relation to the concrete and direct military advantage anticipated.”

“We deserve the respect from the administration and that Congress deserves under the Constitution,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said on the House floor. “

The president deserves respect from congress. Pecker puss Pelosi has viciously insulted the Donald at every turn. It’s right and fitting that the Donald treats her like dirt.

If this was a binding resolution and Iran nuked one of our cities, it would probably take the House a year to quit talking and let the President take action.
