Vermont Attacks the US Constitution (Again): Closing the 'Charleston Loophole'
American Thinker.com ^ | January 14, 2020 | John Klar

Vermont’s progressive, gun-fearing state legislature commenced its 2020 session on Jan. 7, using its large Democrat majorities in both houses to ramrod a host of ambitious bills down the throats of the citizenry, beginning with an ill-considered “gun bill” which hit the House Judiciary Committee the morning of Jan. 9. The arrogance of this overwrought (and overconfident) cabal is evident to all but themselves.

The “Firearms and Domestic Violence Bill” (H 610) is the first of a phalanx of intended assaults on the Bill of Rights. But its proponents forgot something -- the pretense of constitutionality.

This bill seeks to close what leftist ideologues dub the “Charleston loophole,” but which federal law retains as a constitutional default provision. When a person seeks to purchase a firearm, they must undergo a background check in which they are either instantly approved, instantly rejected based on past criminal history, or are placed on hold, pending a three-day delay to permit federal authorities to make further inquiries to determine whether they are legally disqualified from the purchase. If the three days elapse without action, a federally licensed gun dealer may proceed with the sale.

Vermont is doomed as well. Pretty soon their numbers will be growing exponentially and those once idyllic resort towns will be overrun. Of course, it’ll be interesting to see what happens when they star creeping in on Burlington. I doubt the Liberals will allow that place to be ruined.

Interesting that the savages are settled in one of the few places in the state that has Republican leadership. Not sure if the Mayor wanted it or they were just plopped in his lap.

Toss is the pill problem and Vermont is well on its way to be Shangri-La.

Place is doomed like everything else that is run by the Dem’s

It breaks your heart to read about stuff like this. And to think for all of those years, Vermont had virtually no gun control and that that was accompanied by very little or no violent crime whatsoever. And this sort thing never ever occurs to these idiots who march into that state from NY or MA or wherever else complete with the ivory tower they continue to live in and want guns banned.

Vermonters are, shall we say, an eccentric bunch.

IOW, they are weird.

Nice. But weird.

The problem is, most of Vermont is so desolate, and north of the few cities it has is so red, that they will have a fight on their hands enforcing it.

Consider the mentality of a person that would label their neighbors ever shrinking pathway to liberty as a “loophole”.

Is it doomed, or is it ripe for a voter revolt? So many places Trump can swing in and run just on his gun platform, saying he needs not just congressmen and senators to support the constitution, but also legislatures and executive branches.

I don’t know anymore. So many better informed people keep saying that rolling back the liberal tide is impossible that no one seems to want to try anymore. Then again, most of them were also sure that a) Trump would never make it past Super Tuesday, b) well, that was a fluke, but he’ll never make it through the primaries.. c) Republicans don’t know what they really want, but Hillary is going to wipe the floor with him, d) okay, she’s not going to wipe the floor but will have a comfortable electoral vote victory...

I mean, a pro-freedom platform, rolling back the decisions from the ‘government’ to ‘protect you’? With plenty of golden examples of how much gun bans and heavy restrictions don’t have any effect on gun crime?

Seems at least worth a try once.

There are fewer native Vermonters than transplants. The flatlanders in our General Assembly can pass anything they want but can’t force us to follow anything that violates our own 227 year old Constitution.

Vermont is an unusual state...if you stop in some of the small towns (Wilmington) it is a town that is against the state. The cities are the cesspool, but still the state has personal freedoms...(skinny-dipping, gun rights).

We need to resettle decent people in VT and flip the state.

I’d be willing to move there. ;-D

Doomberg and Soros are bankrolling this assault on our Constitution and FReedoms.

We have to figure out how to get them out off the field of battle!

I would do it, if I’m some GOP billionaire I’m building housing across the most closely divided state leg districts and looking for volunteers, the problem is employment.

It’s 107 to 43 in VT House. They gerrymander close seats if somebody is making a big push.

Too many colleges

Certain areas of San Francisco are ruined, perhaps, beyond repair. You are correct. But, in other parts of that city, you probably wouldn’t know there was anything wrong with the world if you were wealthy enough to live in them. It’s the Left. They’ll support anything as long as they don’t have to deal with the consequences.

Take, I’d say, every big city in America. All run by Dem’s. All dumps or are well on their way to becoming a dump, but, they all have those neighborhoods that seem to be unaffected by all the idiotic decisions of the Left.

Take a trip to Atlanta and drive through Virginia Highlands, Morningside, Prado and Inman Park. Liberalism on steroids. RICH WHITE LIBERALS, that pay off-duty cops to patrol their neighborhoods and make sure that folks the residents deem “out of place” and keep their neighborhoods “clean” and safe so the stay-at-home moms can push their strollers and do lunges up and down the sidewalk with a homeless man begging for money.
