Bloomberg wants all new cars to be electric by 2035 (Pander 2020)

Democratic presidential hopeful Michael Bloomberg wants all new cars to be electric by 2035, according to a plan released by the former New York City mayor's campaign on Friday.

Bloomberg's campaign said he would instate mileage and pollution standards and "put in place an aggressive schedule to put the U.S. on pace to make 100% of new vehicles pollution-free by 2035."

Bloomberg's plan also calls for building metro-area public transit and intercity rail and bus systems and incentivizing local governments to prioritize "zero-emission" transit systems such as biking and walking. His campaign did not specifically outline how much the plan would be expected to cost.

"My plan will ensure that electric vehicles and charging infrastructure are affordable and accessible to all Americans," Bloomberg said in a statement. "I’ll roll back President Trump’s efforts to weaken emissions standards, create more clean energy jobs, and drive us toward a healthier, carbon-free future.”

I love it when politicians want to legislate physics, thermodynamics, and such. That always ends well.

Electric vehicles should rise or fall based on the market place, WITHOUT subsidies.

I thought they said we only have only 11.5 years left. What’s the sense in rolling out electric vehicles....we won’t be here. Ha!!

I doubt that nanny Bloomberg knows that areas outside of urban areas/cities are not just a wilderness with highways, parks and golf courses and cabins for tourists from cities to book...

I’m sure Bloomberg would like to be 18” taller. That doesn’t mean it’s going to happen.

The rapid rise of electric vehicles could lead to a mountain of battery waste

Yay!! Now the Earth will be saved.
Hmmm ... where did Bloomberg say all of that
electricity is coming from?

I think you are correct there. They live in their own bubble, but add to that their disdain for the ordinary person that lives in the country that actually produces something to help make the country a great place.

A good case in point is Northern VA with their rat majority is about to impose massive gun restrictions. I know some of these people and know for fact these snobs think of anyone in the south (not just southern VA) are just toothless hicks.

Electric vehicle batteries are already being recycled, in a manner of speaking. They get diverted to powering other goods such as golf carts, warehouse vehicles, electric bikes, electric tools, and storage devices. But even then, they will eventually become useless and will be a problem as waste. A big problem.

As for Bloomberg, there aren't enough batteries made to power all the cars he wants made. That's why Elon Musk and Tesla are making their own batteries; there weren't enough batteries worldwide to supply the number of Teslas he was building. Other car makers are running into the same problem, not enough batteries in the supply chain. And none of them are thinking of recycling as Tesla already is doing.

In 2004 Hurricane Charlie closed the Orlando airport between the time my family left our house and the time we got to our local airport.

We had reservations for a princess breakfast at Disney World the next morning we could not reschedule and my 4 year old daughter would be crushed if we missed it. The airline told us it would be 2 to 3 days before we got a flight into Orlando.

I rented a minivan at the Airport and drove 1,000 miles through the hurricane to get to Disney World around Midnight. Due to the weather the trip took 16 hours and I had to stop for gas three times. We made it to the breakfast.

When they make an electric car that would allow me to make that same trip under those circumstances so my daughter wouldn’t be disappointed I will consider buying one.

No, no, no. If Bloomy wants electric cars, he should drop out of the race, open a factory and start making electric cars with him on the assembly line. Otherwise, he’s just a dictator mandating other people how to live and what they can/cannot buy. That’s what I’d tell him IF I were a moderator in his debates.

There is also the fact that Bloomberg is catering to the big city crowd who are as you describe.
