A successful negotiator knows his own strengths, weaknesses and points of leverage. He also knows those points about the person (or country) across the table. THAT is why he is “stumbling” into foreign policy wins . . . but “stumbling” into those triumphs is a grossly inaccurate assessment of the reasons for his success. It is NOT an accident he is being successful.

Exactly right. He bargains like a good lawyer or businessman -- if he's got the leverage, he's going to use it. Too many professional politicians don't want to "look bad" to the chattering classes.

Trump understands deeply that we are the most powerful nation on earth, and should start acting like it rather than apologizing for it. The Brit foreign policy people cited in that article understand that's exactly what he's doing, and that's why he's succeeding.
