PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — With the rising number of shootings in Philadelphia and the nation, a new organization has quietly established itself in Philadelphia with the goal of educating marginalized communities on gun ownership.
You've heard of the National Rifle Association (NRA). Now, there's the Socialist Rifle Association (SRA), with a Philadelphia chapter.
The local chapter was founded about 18 months ago and has approximately 80 members. The organizers interviewed preferred to use only first names.
"We've seen a lot of increasing violence against working communities and marginalized communities, people of color, LGBTQ people," said Joe, one of the organizers who explains the need for the group in the city.
Organizers say the SRA has about 3,000 members. They say one-third of them are from the LGBTQ community, and 10% are former military members.
Akhil explains the SRA is not just about gun ownership and training.
"It's not just self-defense, it's community defense. Gun culture in America, it's like highly individualistic, protecting yourself from the criminals, or protecting your family from the criminals. And we really want to emphasize that this is like a community aspect, it's about being involved in the community, and the people around you," he said.
The SRA also holds workshops for members on mental health and blood loss prevention. Branch meetings are held monthly.
The Socialist Rifle Association is an educational organization dedicated to providing the working class with the information they need to be effectively armed for self and community defense. This includes all manner of community defense, from the right of the working class to possess firearms to the ability to be well versed in the fields of medicine, disaster relief, logistics, agriculture, and survival skills. Our goal is to provide an alternate to the mainstream, toxic, right-wing, and non-inclusive gun culture that has dominated the firearms community for decades. The dirty little secret that they don't want to tell you is that the violence and crime against "LGBTQ people" is mainly committed by blacks and Latinos.

Why would anyone put Socialist in their group name unless they were reactionary?
Nothing about socialists and commies is good. They are the demons of society. Everything they stand for is totally antithetical to what America was founded on. Their ideology should be outlawed.

I am fairly careful to not say anything too controversial here to avoid ...umm controversy. But here goes. One day at my gun club we were talking about treating gun shot wounds. Several guys said that they carry tampons to plug a wound. I don’t recall if it was here or another forum, I received blow back that using tampons was a very bad idea.
Any opinions on the use of tampons to plug gun shot wounds?

Just a coincidence that the Democratic controlled cities start easing up on crimes because there are too many people of color in prison and the crime rate explodes.

There's something just plain WRONG about a Communist Rifle Association. The commies always want to make sure the populace is unarmed and completely helpless. They need people so brainwashed, so brain-dead, so defenseless that they will quietly march off to the Lubyanka or the Gulags to further the revolution.

Yeah, well you want to stop the bleeding. Spend $10 and get some pressure bandage and then learn how to use them.
Having been present at two shootings irl, you need something to cut away the clothing and then something to stop the bleeding until real help comes.
Plus every bullet can leave more than one wound. I saw one go thru the lower buttocks twice (in and out) and into the calf. 3 holes, 1 bullet.
And then there is the legal consequences, sometimes you can do more harm than good.
Get some training and understand the law in the states you hang out in.

I hope they know that Gun Control sprouted up when the “People of Color” in the South Armed themselves for protection against the Democrat founded KKK.
Probably. But more likely this is acclimatization. The Nazis did not just take people off the street for their concentration camps and in particular, their extermination centers. They acclimatized them by training them at small scale killing centers, killing the insane and those with deformities and the like. Once they had been prepared, they were sent as staff to the extermination centers. Think of the socialist rifle association as a way to get leftists who despise us already familiarized with firearms so they will be ready to be assigned to concentration camps as staff once the left gains total power.
We should have something like this. But we don’t since civic organizations are not en vogue anymore.
Seems to be war-fighter training, with an identified enemy (the “toxic” right wing). Plainly.

IIRC they’re the group that trained the Ohio shooter.
