Erosion, floods make some final resting places not so final
The Associated Press ^ | January 21, 2020 | By LISA RATHKE

WEYBRIDGE, Vt. -- When Revolutionary War soldier Josiah Clark was buried in a small Vermont cemetery near a river bank in 1835, it was supposed to be his final resting place.

But erosion over the years made worse by more intense storms has washed away some graves and left the remains of Clark, who fought at the 1775 Battle of Bunker Hill in Massachusetts, precariously perched on the edge of the steep eroding bank.

“That’s a big part of our history, and I think it’s terrible that ... this is happening,” said Tom Giffin, president of the Vermont Old Cemetery Association.

Rising seas, erosion and flooding from worsening storms that scientists believe are caused by climate change are putting some older graveyards across the country at risk. From western Alaska to Louisiana to the eastern shores of Maryland, some historical burial grounds are sinking or submerged in swamps. And the problems are not just in coastal areas.

“There’s no question but that archaeological and historic resources are threatened and arguably increasingly threatened with climate change effects,” including burial grounds, said David Anderson, a professor of anthropology at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.

On an island off New York City, authorities in 2018 found 174 bones unearthed on a site that holds the remains of more than 1 million people. The culprit was shoreline erosion.

These people never give up, do they?

Every day they invent some new “disaster” to blame on climate change.

The use of the term “Climate Change” was used in this article and when you read further, buried down in the article the facts show up...

““Maryland’s Eastern Shore is experiencing sea-level rise at an accelerated rate due to land subsidence and other factors, and many of its other historical cemeteries are already experiencing flooding or turning into marshland,” said Joe Fehrer, a project manager for the The Nature Conservancy who is documenting the Robinson Neck site for the Maryland Historic Trust.”

The water is not rising it is the land eroding and sinking.

Its a pretty simple model but I guess the word “fact” is to hard to say when your choking on a liberal construct... Climate change my !#$#3@

Rivers have never changed course in history until fossil fuels became widely used. That is just science. /s

Well..at least they did not include the place near Memphis, or thereabouts, where they take bodies and leave them out to decay to see what level of decay there is through time. Some in barrels, some under leaves, some partially buried, etc.

Take away?

Sea level isn’t “rising”, the land is eroding and the coastline is encroaching inland.

I saw an article last year that indicated the sea level — at Boston — was going to rise quite a bit. Maine seemed relatively safe. Connecticut seemed relatively safe. But Global Warming was going to place a hill of water right at Boston and cause some problems for the city.

I couldn’t picture exactly how that was going to work, but apparently its settled science.

So, why isn’t the City and State moving Boston 10 miles inland? Emminent domain all those week-ass suburbs and just move it.

I think they owe it to the [future] climate refugees of Boston to appear proactive!

Somewhere, someone made a list of all the ‘events’ caused by “Climate Change”. It MUST be 100’s of entries long by now.

Footnote (September 2015) Why the list stopped growing.

The time it takes to process a new entry increases approximately with the square of the list length, after checking for duplications, spoofs etc. Starting it was based on the naïve assumption that the rate of appearances would decline as opposing evidence accumulated, but the reverse happened. That’s the difference between science and religion. It was taking over my life, which I did not want to end as a garbage collector. There have since been hundreds more claims of an increasingly ludicrous nature.

Seems to me that the logical thing to do would be to move the remains in danger further from the erosion area. Costly: Yes but much more effective than whining that they will wash away! Prior planning prevents poor performance!
