China’s communist government is directly contributing to the current situation, even more to blame than any third world realities or unsanitary practices.
First, a brief timeline according to media reports:
Early Dec, the first cases of these pneumonia surfaced in Wuhan.
Jan 1, eight netizens got into trouble with authorities for maliciously spreading rumor to cause panic, all because they had posted information on the mysterious cases; by then, one patient had already died.
1/18, a Wuhan community hosted a large-scale banquet for 40.000 families, obviously no one was concerned about the disease spreading.
1/19, a Wuhan health official maintained everything was under control. Even though there was no reported cases in other Chinese cities besides Wuhan, new cases have been spreading to other countries - truly incredible and time to come clean.
1/20, Xi made his public statements and suddenly other Chinese cities started reporting their own cases causing the total number to jump. Even then, no official numbers coming out of China should be trusted, the stern warnings to the officials notwithstanding.
This is just so typical of the communists. In crisis after crisis, from SARS in 2003 to the Sichuan earthquake in 2008 - just to give two examples, they always go after the people who initially sounded the alarm rather than focus on dealing with the actual problems, because maintaining stability is above all else to them, while loss of life is nothing to them. By suppressing information while doing nothing to contain the disease at the first chance, they always make a bad situation much worse.

Per the CDC: Developments since the 1918 pandemic include vaccines to help prevent flu, antiviral drugs to treat flu illness, antibiotics to treat secondary bacterial infections such as pneumonia, and a global influenza surveillance system with 114 World Health Organization member states that constantly monitors flu activity. There also is a much better understanding of non-pharmaceutical interventions–such as social distancing, respiratory and cough etiquette and hand hygiene–and how these measures help slow the spread of flu.
Propaganda. The 1918 pandemic did not kill by pneumonia or secondary bacterial infections.
They’re lying. All of the hospitals are full and they are trying to build a 1000 bed hospital in 6 days.
