I liked Lehrer. Despite his left leanings, he always conducted himself with class and professionalism.

RIP

I watched a lot of the MacNeil/Lehrer Newshour as a young teen....and needless to say I was just as boring outside the house too.

Certainly better than anything the left sticks on TV today.

I miss David Brinkley:

Days before he announced his retirement from regular news coverage, Brinkley made a rare, on-air mistake during evening coverage of the 1996 United States presidential election at a moment when he thought he was on commercial break. One of his colleagues asked him what he thought of the prospects for Bill Clinton’s re-election. He called Clinton “a bore” and added, “The next four years will be filled with pretty words and pretty music and a lot of g—d-— nonsense!” One of his team pointed out that they were still on the air. Brinkley said, “Really? Well, I’m leaving anyway!” Brinkley offered Clinton an apology during a one-on-one interview a week or so later.

Oddly, both Jim Lehrer and his future PBS partner Robert MacNeil were both in the Dallas motorcade covering the JFK assassination. There'a picture of MacNeil peering around the Grassy Knoll as eyewitnesses rushed the scene and here's a photo of Lehrer at the Dallas police station.

A lot of careers got a boost that day, including a CBS News regional correspondent named Dan Rather.

No doubt a Liberal and yet, compared to the leftists that beclown themselves nightly nowadays, his newscasts were pretty down the middle.

The left will sing his praises now, after turning on him in 2012 for allowing Romney to debate Obama, without constant interruption and bias. He seemed a well-mannered and fair person, a rare thing now. https://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/05/us/politics/after-debate-a-harsh-light-falls-on-jim-lehrer.html

His prior partner, MacNeil, was a better journalist with a bit less bias.

I did watch the News Hour with them for years, though. When MacNeil retired, I largely stopped watching, because his substitute was a liberal lady (Gwen Eiffel?).

I shed no tear for this political lefty propaganda specialist.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Leher was a decent factual reporter, but as a spin artist he was dyed in the wool commie.
