Mitt Romney 'formally not invited' to CPAC after impeachment vote on witnesses

The chairman of CPAC announced that Utah Sen. Mitt Romney is "formally not invited" to the conservative group's annual conference this year.

Matt Schlapp, the head of the American Conservative Union, said Romney is not allowed at the event after the Utah Republican voted in favor of summoning witnesses in the Senate impeachment trial of President Trump. Romney was one of two Republicans who joined 47 Democrats in supporting the motion, which failed to pass on Friday.

"BREAKING: The 'extreme conservative' and Junior Senator from the great state of Utah, @SenatorRomney is formally NOT invited to #CPAC2020," Schlapp wrote in a tweet, which featured a photo of a troubled-looking Romney.

— Matt Schlapp (@mschlapp) January 31, 2020 It is unclear whether Romney was expecting to attend this year's CPAC next month.

Romney recently slammed Trump's critical statements about former national security adviser John Bolton, whom Democratic House impeachment managers have fought to have as a witness. Bolton announced earlier this month he would testify if subpoenaed, and excerpts of his unpublished book have leaked to the press in recent days containing allegations of Trump pressuring Ukraine to help collect information on his political rivals.

“He has made a career of trashing people by tweet,” Romney told the New York Times. “It is part of his shtick, and it’s working for him."

This CPAC news comes after Utah state Republican Rep. Tim Quinn introduced a bill that would allow voters to recall a sitting U.S. senator. Quinn, 56, claimed the bill was unrelated to Romney but said it was a “good mechanism in place to make any senator, current or future, a little more accountable to those who elected him...

The Mormon church mafia forced an un willing Hatch to retire so Mormon Bishop Romeny can get into the senate - maybe he hated Trump so much he thought he would lead an insurrection against Trump by and he assumed he would have other like minded GOP senators a like McCain to help him fight Trump all the way only to see that the GOP base was behind Trump and Romney has no support - nothing. So Romney sits squirming - making up fake Twitter accounts to vent his frustration. Romney has no influence now and no support.

I think that Mittens was misquoted. Instead of being ‘severely conservative’, I believe he meant that he was ‘severely constipated’. All that added pressure causes compression of the brain, causing damage to the brain.

So has there been a vote on witnesses? I have been watching this most of the day, if there has been a vote, I missed it...

“Romney is eying a 2024 run for the white house”

really? as a Democrat? because voting against Trump (i.e.,voting for witnesses) puts him the same viability class as other GOP candidates like Bill Weld, Joe Walsh, and Mark Sanford ...

True, Nixon lost in 1960, but in 1968, he was still his party’s most recent two term VP, which is BY FAR the most common pathway - almost always guaranteeing nomination.

History shows that Pence will almost certainly get the nomination in 2024, if he chooses to run.

Romney has no such qualification.

Surely you jest. That worthless POS has to know he'll never be elected POTUS. I refused to vote for him in 2012 and a lot more people would join with me and not vote for him in 2024. He had his chance in 2012 and totally blew it against an inept buffoon with a lagging economy. No second chances for this disgusting and disgraceful RINO. Not to mention that would really urinate off the people of Utah if he uses his seat as a springboard for another shot.

Sure you can. But they have to be expelled by Congress with a 2/3 vote, it’s not something that The People can vote on and do, unfortunately. There was an effort to recall McCain at one point. The solution is obvious, though, quit voting for the dumbass!
