A Syrian was killed and another was wounded when government supporters attacked American troops and tried to block their way as their convoy drove through an army checkpoint in northeastern Syria, prompting a rare clash, state media and activists reported.
The U.S. military said its force came under fire, and that troops responded in self-defense. It said an investigation of the incident was underway.

Why do we have soldiers in that area?
Oil.
Why do we have soldiers in that area?
Oil.
Yep, because oil. Not for Alpaca blankets, honey or olives.
Oil and maybe natural drugs.
> Why do we have soldiers in that area? <
We have vital interests there! We must defend those interests, or go broke trying.
And please ignore this famous quote:
He who defends everything defends nothing.
Frederick the Great
No, just oil.
Trump Says U.S. Troops Stayed in Syria 'Because I Kept the oil'
Are these the troops we pulled out a few months ago?
We’re there to safeguard the oil from ISIS reconquest. The Syrian government has shown many times they don’t have the forces or logistics to hold the oil refineries. Too much tribal and factional power play for the oil revenue. If you leave it there the most brutal and ruthless faction will take it, IOW ISIS.
US shot 14 year old as the locals were yelling, “what are you doing in our country?”, and throwing stones. Villagers return fire. Russia steps in to deescalate things. US troops withdraw.
Lots of vid on Twitter under #Qamishli.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yeah, why? For God’s sake why are we always getting in the middle of these 7th. century barbarians and their constant, never ending sectarian blood feuds? Enough. Let them kill each, it’s all they’re good for.
The country with the cheapest oil wins. The country with oil that is too expensive risks being invaded and occupied. Oil in enormous quantities is of the utmost importance in a military pursuit (see Patton, fuel). Cheap oil is necessary for a strong economy. Do you want to pay much more at the pumps? Military leaders and academics have long warned that nations would be fighting increasingly more in time over oil resources. You’re seeing part of that fight with propaganda in social media now.
Just what I was thinking. We didn’t elect Hillary to avoid a war with Assad. What the flying F are US troops doing there?
Yes lets leave and they can continue to party like its 699.
And why are they driving through Syrian army checkpoints?
Right. It is a sovereign country. USA, Turkey get the hell out. Russia can stay because Syria has invited them in to protect them.
How many oil refineries are in that part of Syria?
So our Army, operating in Syria without the slightest legal authority besides the 9/11 AUMF resolution, there to protect rebels from the Syrian government after we switched sides in the war on terror and started supporting AQ in Syria, tried to run a Syrian Army roadblock, in Syria, and when shot at, they shot back... and it’s “self defense”.
You just gotta laugh. The occupation government in DC doesn’t even pretend anymore. Trump order the troops out, the Generals just basically flipped him the finger and reclassified everyone as some kind of trainer and marched on.
Oil, yeah, because we don’t have any of that. And we need to ensure Syrian oil makes it to the EU.
