Are You Ready For the 2020 Census? The Census Bureau Isn't
pjmedia.com ^ | 2/13/2020 | Rick Moran

With all the controversy over the 2020 census this year, you might think the bureaucrats would have been extra-special careful in preparing for it.

This doesn't appear to be the case.

The Government Accountability Office has issued a scathing report on the readiness of the Census Bureau to begin conducting the count. They have dropped the ball in recruiting the thousands of workers who will go door to door; they have lagged in forming partnerships with local civic groups who assist in finding those hard to count; and they have missed deadlines in testing new IT technology that would allow many people to self-respond as well as telling the government to follow up with households that have not responded.

The census count will begin next month and the GAO is saying the Census Bureau won't be ready.

Ready? Do we need to study up or something? Nah. Two adults live here. That is all. Long form? Two adults live here. That is all.

Lawmakers are growing increasingly alarmed about hacking dangers targeting the 2020 Census after a watchdog detailed dozens of high-risk cybersecurity problems that should have been fixed a long time ago.

The hacking danger could be compounded by social media misinformation spread by U.S. adversaries or pranksters falsely claiming that census data is corrupted or the count is rigged, according to the Government Accountability Office report released during a House Oversight Committee hearing yesterday.

Concerns are extra high because the decennial count, which kicks off in earnest next month, will be the first one conducted primarily online with respondents encouraged to submit forms over the Internet. And when responses don’t arrive online or by mail, census-takers will go out to collect them using secure smartphone apps.

on line...........................

I bet the online forms won't allow you to enter the information that they are Constitutionally allowed to ask. Instead it will likely keep on rejecting it until you buckle under and answer all the questions. Paper census for me. I can mail it in when I say they have enough info.

Buckle? Had the long form last time and only answered how many adults lived at our location. They sent someone out to gather more info. They were not happy when the finally left. With no other info. At least from us.

Gotta admit I was a little surprised when the Census recruiter noted that we're using "special" smartphones this round. When I did the pre-Census canvassing to check addresses last year, we were given touch-screen laptops that auto-connected to a government wi-fi network that allegedly had all kinds of security on it. We were told that we should use our home network only if their network failed.

Well, the pay isn't bad, and we do get mileage costs. When I was canvassing the rural areas of Napa County, I had a couple checks where the mileage pay was higher than the hourly pay.

As a lark, I applied for a job with the census bureau back in September of 2019.

I've a degree in Math, owned businesses, sold computer systems, and really don't need {or want the job}, but I wanted to see what would happen.

By December of 2019, they finally sent me an email that said I qualified and would be contacted in January, 2020.

Didn't happen, but this week, they sent me another email that said I qualified, and would be contacted within the next 30 days:)

We'll see.

“ They have dropped the ball in recruiting...”

.... I can speak from first-hand knowledge that this is the case. Went thru the process for a temp management position to supervise canvassers. No one in the Hiring process seemed to know what they were doing. Gave up after many attempts at follow-up.

Didn't the 2010 census get tied into Obama's huge data base that Maxine Waters was blabbing about a few years ago?

I had a worker knock on my door looking for the filled out long form. I had written across the envelope "none of your damn business!" She gave me some legal threats and I just held up 4 fingers and told her, "here's my filled out form right here and if you don't like it, then you can have the one finger form. Have a nice day."

I think I’ll wait until someone other than the GAO and a hack like #neverTrump Rick Moron confirm it

They sent a 20-something tattooed woman to my door.. She tried to get info out of me via sneaky conversational questions. I said “you’re trying to trick me!” She got flustered and left. Heh.
