“If we wanted to simply take Mexico, for example, that would require a Congressional Declaration of War. If Mexico was deemed a threat to the US by such things as massing troops on the border, or local Mexican militias conducting raids across the border, responding to those by invading into Mexico would not require any such declaration.”

As in 1916, when Wilson sent the army into Mexico to go after Pancho Villa.

you’re still evading the fact that FDR asked for congressional declaration of war. that’s all that the resolution passed by the Senate is asking for. It’s in the Constitution.

The Resolution as written by the Socialist Democrats is an avenue of entrapment for them to isolate and bring more charges against President Trump. Since the efforts to impeach the President were vacuous at best, the Socialists are now trying to use Constitutional elements to entrap the President, ergo, another route to impeachment. The eight Publicans who voted for the Resolution are too shortsighted to realize what is going on.

I’m not evading anything. I’m just trying to get you to admit the truth. Military action does not require a declaration of war.

“Military action does not require a declaration of war.”

Going to war does. Or it used to, in the days when the Constitution was respected. So many of my conservative friends say that the war power provision of the Constitution doesn’t have to be respected because various presidents have not honored it (Truman, LBJ and Obama, e.g.). But that’s like saying the Second Amendment is no longer valid because the government ignored it for decades.

Did FDR look “weak” because he went before Congress after Pearl Harbor and asked Congress to declare war, before he launched our military response?

You know full well you're comparing apples to oranges. If you don't you're foolish.

Any of them running for election this time?

Wasn’t that a non-binding resolution?

OK.
Trump should sign the bill.

And let Congress deal with the next crisis in Iran.
Force them to vote.

You do understand that not even the founding fathers thought that all military action required a declaration of war right?

What about when a nation has already declared war on you? Also, attacks on embassies are attacks against the embassies’ nations ie acts of war.

“ What about when a nation has already declared war on you?“

You mean like Japan did on Pearl Harbor? You know, the day before FDR went before Congress to ask for a declaration of war?

Abiding by the Constitution, and having Congress declare war, didn’t hinder us from winning. The Constitution works. We ought to stick by it
