Poor Mike
Townhall.com ^ | February 22, 2020 | Michael Reagan

I never thought I'd feel sorry for a billionaire - a $60 billion billionaire. But watching Mike Bloomberg getting beat up in the Democrat debate in Vegas Wednesday night was almost tragic.

It was like watching an old boxer who gets clocked early in Round 1 and then wobbles around the ring in a daze for the rest of the fight while he's pounded unmercifully.

Mike never recovered from the opening series of left hooks and below-the belt punches delivered by Bernie, Liz, Pete, Amy and old Joe.

For two hours he was slapped around and bullied by his much taller, much poorer and much better-prepared opponents.

Mini-Mike found out fast that he was definitely not among friends.

For millionaire socialists like Bernie and Liz, simply being a multi-billionaire capitalist was an unforgivable original sin - no matter how self-made he was, how hard or smart he worked or how much of his wealth he's given away.

And thanks to the accusations about his sexist tongue, his allegedly racist remarks about New York's stop-and-frisk crime policy, and his arrogant quest to buy the Democrat Party presidential nomination, Mike was put on the defensive all night.

Even the refs - NBC's all-liberal moderators - had no mercy.

They didn't challenge Mike's opponents' low blows or question their ludicrous plans to have the federal government fix everything wrong with America.

By now everyone in the country knows that Mike's debate debut was a total disaster. Like Governor Perry and Mayor Giuliani in 2016, he turned out to be all media hype and hope.

Along with his advisers, even his makeup person fell down on the job. Mike didn't appear anywhere near as youthful or sharp-minded as he does in his slick TV ads.

Mini-Mike's failure reminds me of what Homer Simpson said to his daughter Lisa after she asked him how she did when she sang at a school concert.

"Honey," Homer said, "you tried your best. You failed miserably. The lesson is, never try."

Homer would give the same advice today to Mike, who spent more time apologizing than explaining how his policies differ from his competitors.

He did get off a few sarcastic quips. But apparently he was so afraid of stepping into a politically incorrect hole he didn't take ownership of the good things he's accomplished or get even a little bit mad at being a public punching bag.

Liz, Pete, Amy and Joe all got their jollies taking cheap shots at Mike and his fat wallet.

But they did nothing to stop the juggernaut that is going to run all of them over in the coming primaries - Bernie Sanders.

Bernie was stronger than ever in Vegas. He looked crazy and sounded great as usual.

And no matter what the issue was, he always managed to end up on the same ideological soapbox shouting for more socialism, more taxes and stricter government control over evil capitalism.

Liz was tougher than usual and quick on her feet.

But she was also her annoying professorial self - a tiresome know-it-all and a leftwing moral scold who along with Bernie wants to save the planet by implementing the Green New Deal and outlawing fossil fuels.

Mayor Pete - the youngest and poorest candidate - did pretty well. When he wasn't having a high school lunchroom catfight with Amy, his fellow moderate, he seemed to be the only adult on stage. She did her standard third-place job.

Poor Joe. No one picked on him or paid much attention to him because his candidacy is in a death spiral. He was not as incoherent as usual. But he embarrassed himself by bragging so much about how much experience he's had in DC that he made it sound like President Obama had been his VP.

So the consensus is clear. The big loser of the night - other than the Democrat Party - was Mini-Mike and the big winner was Bernie.

But we all know that in the long run the real winner - for the ninth Democrat debate in a row - was Donald Trump.

Gloomberg never got hit below the ring.

It was just a bout of champions.

Gloomberg thought being the ping pong champion had prepared him for boxing.

I don’t understand why Mike didn’t tell Lieawatha that he would authorize release of his NDAs as soon as she authorized Harvard to release her hiring records so that we could see she didn’t actually get hired because of her fake Indian ancestry. That would have shut her up real fast.

I don’t feel the least bit sorry for him. I used to work for somebody like him. A short, little tyrant who knew it all and treated people like crap except for those who fawned all over him.

I thought Mikey did pretty well, especially pointing out that the hypocrite communist Bernie Sanders has three homes. What on earth is a “summer camp”? Worth 3M? Horsefeathers. People with 3M cannot support two houses and a summer camp. 3M is small change to hypocrites like Bernie.

Bloomberg probably knew what to expect. He is not in it for delegate count except perhaps to deny anyone else a majority. He is running for the only delegates that matter, the superdelegates who will decide for the DNC’s preferred Candidate should no one get a majority in the primaries. It is much more efficient to spread money around to a much smaller number of voters, the supers, in order to purchase the position. Bloom was on the stage to register his presence, nothing more.

While Bloomberg did miserably, the whole lot of them were losers. Not just in how they behaved but in the almost universally extremist far far leftist nature of what they said. Very sad. ( and calling buttplug and Amy “moderates” is erroneous at best. True, Amy co ducts herself in a relatively more respectful manner but both of these last two are still very far left in most of their politics, especially buttplug. Imho, the dnc will come up with a new much more salable candidate - possibly at the convention

Yes, I have no sympathy for Mini Mike; he’s an elitist who looks down on us “little people”.

Nice to see Bernie ask him in which tax haven he lived (it’s Bermuda).

.....”Mike never recovered from the opening series of left hooks and below-the belt punches delivered”....

I disagree, Bloomberg knew well ahead the media had spoon fed the public this was going to be a bashing on him and the candidates were happy to obligue the narrative the media set. Bloomberg just refused to play their game... and just let the others make fools of themselves...which they did.

Michael Reagan is a never Trumper. I used to like him but he went sour when he bad mouthed Trump during the 16 campaign.

Bloomberg forget one of the basic rules of life:

Never get in a fight with a pig—they love it and you both get filthy. ;-)

Bloomberg has never been taken to task over anything he has ever said or done. He’s never had to. He looked totally stupefied and completely lost. I have no sympathy for this elitist bastard and so should none of any Freepers. At his core he is a totalitarian who wants to entirely eliminate the 2nd. Amedment. He started a nation wide organization to do just that and he wants to control every facet of our lives.

yeah Warren knocked him out in the first minutes. but as much as i find him arrogant, weak for his apology tour of late, i do give him credit for getting up the next day and speaking, including a self-deprecating joke. that is hard to do when still smarting.

Agreed. And it will be Hitlery. Compared to the rest, she is moderate. She’s crooked, she’s incompetent, but she has name recognition tied to a President (Bill) that by democrat standards was moderate. The economy was going good in the 90’s, there was more civil calm, especially with regards to race relations, etc.

From a democrat point of view, she is not that America hating left like the squad bunch or the current set of clowns trying to get the nomination.

And I’d like to see her get the nomination. Trump could easily beat her. On the other hand if massive voter fraud put this old bag in the Oval Office, she would be the lesser of all the current evils running for prez on the dem side.

Bloomberg never ran for a standard political office before.

Running for mayor of NYC is a lot of stagecraft for optics while the votes are won by appealing to the right “sub bosses” in the NYC political machine. Basically whomever the local Al Sharpton is for whatever ethnic or economic interest bloc. You send out your surrogates to “grease the palms” of the right people, you get the endorsement, you show up for photos and videos with that individual for the papers, and the requisite bloc of votes is delivered.

Any actual for-the-cameras “fighting” between candidates is just perfunctory.

No one runs for office there by knocking on the doors of an 90 story condo/apartment building. That’s not reasonable.
