Second Death From Virus Is Reported in the U.S.
NYT ^ | March 2, 2020

A second person has died of the novel coronavirus in the Seattle area and more confirmed cases of the illness have emerged in Washington State, officials said Sunday evening. Public health leaders in King County, Wash., said a man in his 70s with underlying health conditions died on Saturday at EvergreenHealth hospital in Kirkland. That’s the same facility where officials identified the nation’s first coronavirus death on Saturday — a man in his 50s with underlying health conditions.

Officials also announced three other confirmed coronavirus cases in the county, all at EvergreenHealth. They include a woman in her 80s, a woman in her 90s and a man in his 70s. All were in critical condition with underlying health issues. All four new cases were residents of a nursing facility in Kirkland where two other people — a resident and a worker — had previously tested positive....

The first of those cases was announced on Jan. 21, but this weekend saw a marked uptick in the pace of diagnoses. Twenty-three U.S. cases were announced on Saturday and Sunday, including the country’s first two deaths, both in Washington State.

Over a hundred per day, but good luck finding that in the New York Times. It doesn't fit their orange man bad meme.

They missed the 40 year old Snohomish man at Evergreen that is critical. I think there are 10 total in King County. I’m guessing that will double by the end of the day.

My small town Dr. has had 2 of his patients die from the flu this year.

Both elderly.

And one healthy 29 yo that almost succumbed to it when it went to his lungs

He’s more concerned about a 1917-18 type flu epidemic that kills off 2-3% of the entire population of the planet

If you announce every death for any virus or disease you can make the public panic. You could probably do it any time you wanted to.

That's the one that worries me. We are due. Thankfully medicine is better than it was 100 years ago.

Look at those ages! Why is the world panicked over this BS? People at that age die from all sorts of common ailments, yet we have to get a breathless update for each one.

30,000 to as high as 100,000 die from flu every year, but of course more are infected... so looks like Coronavirus is more virulent?

But seems to hit the over 70s much harder. No children get infected. Healthy adults recover. I’m not sure if there might even be an ethnic predisposition here. Was this man Chinese?

A Bernie-type healthcare system would destroy all that.

Obamacare almost did

I’m thinking these numbers are going to be hard to nail down. How many will have a mild infection and not even realize it’s not a cold or flu and never see a Doctor?

Honestly, you seem to be the only one “worked up”. Others are just reporting what happened.

There have always been regular updates on the flu. Anyone in the healthcare industry has to take the flu course every year, and they learn all about it.

No one ever looks for them because it’s expected, normal, and planned for.

This is not expected, unpredictable, and presents the potential for a significant increase in the load on our systems.

Because in some countries it is not just deadly to the elderly and weak immune system population dying. If I had to guess, there are several different stains, if the countries outside China are reporting the truth.

Yes, between 600 and 900 Americans died of the "common" flu in the 3 days between these TWO deaths (of Chinese men) from COVID-19.
