Philly police to halt narcotics arrests, other charges during COVID outbreak.
BILLY PENN News ^ | 3.17.2020 | MIGUEL MARTINEZ

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw has instructed the department to begin delaying arrests for a slew of low-level criminal offenses — including all narcotics activity.

The unprecedented move comes as the city takes emergency measures to contain the rapid spread of the coronavirus through the region.

An internal memo obtained by Billy Penn and WHYY states that crimes including theft, burglary, prostitution, stolen automobiles, vandalism, and certain economic crimes will no longer automatically result in detention. Police will also temporarily stop enforcing bench warrants to individuals who fail to show up for court.

So.. What about responding to overdoses? Is that now a lesser priority?

Also, what does not enforcing these laws have to do with the spread and/or containment of the virus?

Are IV drug users, sharing needles, more or Less likely to spread the disease? Same with prostitutes?

exactly WHAT are they saying here?

Cause crime never hurt anyone anyhow.

Again we see the cure topping the disease.

Marvelous.

“Also, what does not enforcing these laws have to do with the spread and/or containment of the virus?”

Well, they won’t have to shove all these people they would have arrested into the holding cells where they’re all breathing the same air, and breathing the same air as the cops in the precinct.

At least they’re not gonna release everyone from prison and instantly unemploy all the low level service yutes. That would be really bad.

What in the world is the logic behind this decision? Is there ANY?

California passed an initiative to decriminalize any theft below $950. Now we have video of the yutes brazenly cleaning out racks of cosmetic products in a CVS store in broad daylight. They wore surgical masks to cover their identities. They should be prosecuted for wasting a mask at the least.

The virus is going to reduce a lot of the demand for narcotics by eliminating a lot of the end users.

And they’ll be shocked when anarchy breaks out in the streets. But I’m sure they’ll find some way to blame it on Trump.

NYC lets (almost) all criminals out within 24hrs, so Philly is trying to one-up them. No logic from a dem-run, ruined city gov’t.

If you’re going there for some reason, CCW w/ extra mags. Wait... that might be a prosecutable crime there, by now.

Chuckling over here. This was pretty much their policy 25 years ago. There’s so much crime there that the police can’t come out for everything.

For example, theft from auto? Happened a few times to me. The police would never come out for that. You’d have to call that in.

When the police won’t (or can’t) do their job the citizens will. And that’s never pretty.
