Footage shows the desperate scenes in Italy as hospitals are full with patients amid the corona virus outbreak which has killed 4 825 people in the country so far.

Hospitals in the region of Lombardy are some of the best in the world, yet they have been overwhelmed by the sheer number of patients needing intensive care due to the pandemic.

At the time of writing, Lombardy has 25 515 infected and 3 095 deaths, a terrifying death rate of 12%. So far 4 235 have been discharged from hospital, while 8 258 people are in hospital.

The footage shows the hospital filled with corona virus patients on ventilators, as doctors are struggling to help them.

The team at Sky News are led through corridors full of gasping people. When the reporter asks what ward he is in, he is told that it is actually a waiting room.

Emergency arrivals ward looks like an intensive care unit, but the people there are all new arrivals.

The head of emergency care, Dr. Roberto Cosentini told the Sky News team that this is not like the flu.

Don’t believe 12%. Why? because mortality rate should be expressed as the % that die that contract the virus. But the Number of cases is those that have tested positive. There are tens of thousands in Italy that have NOT been tested that have the virus, therefore the actual mortality rate is probably between .01 and 3%.

I read this morning that Italy is conducting covid tests
post mortem and are counting them, but other countries like Germany are not.

Italy must have received the more virulent sub-strain of the virus. I have a cousin and a close friend in Brescia, and the stories I’m hearing are amazing. They cannot leave their apartments without some sort of letter/authorization. And apparently the health system/hospital care in the northern part of Italy is supposed to be very good, but they have just been totally overwhelmed.

Maybe their "hug a chinese person day" wasn't such a good idea!

The mayor of Florence, Italy, @DarioNardella initiated "hug a Chinese" on Twitter on Feb 1, opposing anger toward China amid the #nCoV2019 outbreak, and calling for "Unity in this common battle!" Many Italian netizens responded by posting photos of themselves with Chinese. pic.twitter.com/LutXfPyXc7— Global Times (@globaltimesnews) February 4, 2020

It’s ok. I’m here to join others who have enjoyed joining in coast to coast to all say:

“It’s just a flu.”

(They will continue.)

[[They cannot leave their apartments without some sort of letter/authorization.]]

Some states here in US are almost as restrictive as this right now- people are being told they will be arrested if they are out and about ‘without good reason’ basically

And now since a lot of people went to the south of the country from the north, the cases in the south are increasing, and their hospitals are not nearly as good.

“And apparently the health system/hospital care in the northern part of Italy is supposed to be very good, but they have just been totally overwhelmed.”

That is the issue. So where so many see next to nothing and feel so emboldened to make ridiculous “medical” observations, if you have no hospital service in your area, then what?

I want to see what they would say if their health care is completely shut down. I’d guess they won’t like it. Even less if it’s them or someone in their family who can’t get medical attention.

Even worse is that those who are tested are already very ill or hospitalized. People with no or mild symptoms are not being tested. They don’t even think to get tested.

In the US Pence has said don’t get tested unless you have symptoms.

I wonder out here in Fearful Republic what is the consensus acceptable death toll for WuFlu? Will we accept 140,000 deaths?

That is why the US is trying to limit contact; to simply slow the pace so we are not also overwhelmed. Most will survive this, but some that could be saved won’t be if the equipment isn’t available due to crowds at one time.

Expect this death rate to rise now that anyone over 60 is denied a respirator

( used to be 80, then 70)

Precisely. And the Italians are making heroic efforts to save their elderly. Germans, maybe not so much. Frau Merkel has arranged for plenty of fresh Arab Muslim refugees to replace them.

Reminds me of another Freeper some time ago who remarked that these people would likely rather kill themselves before ever being branded a racist. I guess this is that principle in action, eh?
