Today just might be the day you receive your invitation to respond to the 2020 Census. Now, I dont think anyone is waiting by his or her mailbox in wild anticipation of a census form, but in this presidential election year, its important to realize just how crucial this census could be to future presidential elections.
While we choose a president every four years, we conduct a census only every ten years and our country has experienced enormous changes in the past decade. As we embark on a new census, congressional reapportionment and electoral votes hang in the balance. Given population growth in states like Florida, the Sunshine State could pick up two more Congressional seats, expanding the states influence in Congress. In addition, a possible gain of more electoral votes would make Florida an even more significant prize for the 2024 presidential election. Meanwhile, many high-tax, highly regulated states are projected to show population declines in this census and therefore reduced influence in future elections.
The Internal Revenue Service recently highlighted a consistent and long-running trend showing the different rates at which states are growing. These statistics should raise alarm bells in certain state legislatures across the country. The 2018 data show the state of Florida netted $16 billion of income growth from state-to-state migration. The next closest was Arizona with growth of $12.5 billion. Not only did the Sunshine State show the highest income growth in 2018, but Florida also attracted more new residents than any other state. And who might have been the biggest loser? Not surprisingly, New York, the Empire State, lost more than $10 billion.
About $1 million in income migrates every 30 minutes to Florida. It comes from New York, New Jersey, Illinois, and all the other states that continue to pursue the failed policies of overtax-overspend-overregulate. While high-tax states still cant figure out why they fail at basic budgeting, we acknowledge a truth known for decades here in Florida that if you build a low-tax, limited government state with a friendly environment for entrepreneurs, millennials, retirees, and every day folks, they will come. Its why Florida thrives on a $90 billion state budget while New York flails on $190 billion.
As a seventh-generation Floridian, it is not hard for me to harken back to a time when Floridas economy was in a seemingly perpetual slump. Sluggish growth, lackluster opportunity, and an economy largely beholden to tourism and agriculture. We turned that ship around through the efforts of fiscally conservative Governors, legislative leaders, and a population that not only made a state income tax unconstitutional, but then followed it up by requiring a super-majority to raise any taxes or fees. The result? A $1 trillion economy and 3.2 percent unemployment, and income growth outpacing the national average.
Thirty years ago in the great movie Field of Dreams, Kevin Costner showed us that, If you build it, they will come. Well, we built Florida to provide the most opportunity for Floridians with lower taxes, limited government and free-market policies. Sure enough, we built it, and millions came. As the country embarks on this census, Florida and other states that built strong economies will become even more influential in the future direction of our country.
The “census form” is online! They send a code by US Mail. The code links you to the form.
Did mine already. Must have got the short form online. No questions I would refuse to answer.
What are they doing if someone doesn't have a computer?
I did mine, no question about citizenship.
Answered race question with human. Really tired of being color coded.

Me too. I've ignored previous ones because they asked questions that aren't any of their business.
But it seems to me that it's more important to know who the citizens are than to know their race.
If they don't get a response by computer for that address, then they send out a hard-copy form. If they don't get that back, then they send out a person. My understanding is that the person is supposed to try 5 times to get a response for the address. If nothing after all of this, they deem the address empty for census purposes.
Same here. Did it in about a minute. None of the intrusive, BS questions of past census questionnaires.
I did NOT enter in the census ID#. I did NOT enter in my name. I used a nickname(made up). I did NOT enter DOB but I did enter age. I did enter the number of persons living here. I did NOT enter my phone number. I used the directory assistance # for my area code (555-1212)
Yea, Im a contrarian.
A census “enumerator” will knock on your door sometime in May. The enumerator will have an electronic listing of all “non-responding” addresses in his/her area. It might be me, as I’ve applied for the job. The Census Bureau currently doing an FBI background check on me, which I have to pass before I can get to the training.
I echo post #3, verbatim.
PA has been bleeding congressional seats for years, presently at 18. The recent population trend is slow growth: 0.08%. This indicates a net migration from PA to other states. PA will probably lose a seat or two after this census. That's a smaller number of electoral votes, but they may be Rat electoral votes again. If Rats are migrating from PA to conservative states, it might just be possible they are taking the progressive politics with them, and turning those states purple or worse yet blue. Sorry, I'm being a pessimistic this morning, must be the weather. I can say with confidence that NY is not going to be red anytime soon. Hopefully, their Rats stay home, and only Republicans migrate from NY, adding additional Republican electoral votes to other states.
“The census form is online! They send a code by US Mail. The code links you to the form.”
Takes about 1 minute to complete.
For “race” I put “Indy 500”
My personal opinion is..no one should fill it out.
But I don’t live in Florida, LOL
That’s what I did too, and have been doing that for years, also on forms that have nothing to do with the census.
Yep, start to finish in a couple of minutes. The letter has a code you enter..they already know who you are..if youre legit....Made sure mine was accurate with proper name etc so when the database is used to Create those Checks for the Chinese Virus theres no confusion...lol...
