The difference is a tapered dose which is for standard bacterial infection, compared to the dosage listed in this article which is to prevent secondary bacterial infection and also to potentially assist with reducing lung wall inflammation (off-label as well).
maybe it has received recognition and is why Trump sounded excited bout the drug- or one of the reasons why anyways-

We aren’t running out- Israel is sending something like 3 million pills now, with like 15 million more a bit later- and i think other countries are creating it as well- We will at most have 20-50,000 or so infected people with only a small % getting so sick that they will need the drug to stay alive- and we have already, millions and millions of doses, and are going to be getting millions and millions of doses- We’re not running out- there simply aren’;t anywhere near enough near terminally sick virus victims to deplete the supplies-

Hey, thanks, I want to believe in any of this but theres so many reasons I am skeptical. 400mg of hydroxychloroquine for 5 days is enough to do...what exactly? I’m told it apparently allows zinc sulfate into a virus. By what mechanism would something like that occur? Are there mystical things that have been learned since the wutang appeared that no one has known for 50 years? I love Trump, I hope maybe these clever doctors from chyna/france/Monroe,NY uncovered a secret miracle cure.
Truly a great clinician and caring physician in the best tradition of the profession. Right now practicing physicians who want to treat in a similar manner do not have outpatient access to hydroxychloroquine. Much is being written and publicized about hospitals receiving respirators and PPE. Would be nice if the Feds made sure hydroxychloroquine were available to practicing physicians. It would cut down visits to the hospital and critical delays in beginning treatment.

i don’t know much about it- i do know that like when taking certain vitamins, you should combine them with certain other ones because they help the cells or the body to absorb them better somehow- so maybe they’ve discovered that the zinc opens something up in order to allow the drugs to be better taken into the virus cells or something- without the zinc, perhaps the drugs struggle to enter where they need to be to work right- I think they still work, just perhaps not as good0- we’ve seen trials of the Hrdrxy drug work without the zinc- maybe they have faster and better success when adding the zinc
Zinc is an antiviral in it’s own right too- it inhibits viruses- like with herpes- it inhibits it so that it doesn’t come out and go to a surface like the lips (Cold Sores) i believe- so maybe this action also helps in combination with hte drug- I don’t know0-
I hope matching doses of azithromycin are available since it seems to strongly enhance the effect of hydroxychloroquine. The two drugs work as a team. I’ve seen lots of reports of HCQ being donated and its production ramped up, but I’m not seeing so much about the azithromycin end of things.
I think this doctor calling this a cure for CV is way out of bounds looking at his parameters for whom he treats:
1. Any patient with shortness of breath regardless of age is treated.
2. Any patient in the high-risk category even with just mild symptoms is treated.
I’ll be 60 this year which might put me in the “high risk” category. I have a sore throat and cough, probably due to chronic sinus issues. Would I have been treated and then considered “cured” of CV?
ANYBODY that shows “shortness of breath”? Get a few snoot-fulls of Lysol spray and I start getting short of breath too.
Other studies show these drugs to be helpful - but I think this use on pretty much anybody is not useful, and is a waste of the drugs when actual CV patients need them.

It seems we will only likely need several hundred doses perhaps- even if we were to treat everyone of those 20-50,000 with the drug, we’d still have plenty it seems- but we certainly will have more than enough when Israel sends them here-
I keep seeing articles saying we’re gonna run out, people are gonna hoard it, etc- but really, only a couple of 1000 of folks will need it at most- We’ve had what? 1200 people die? Had we treated them, that would have been only 12000 total pills needed if it’s once a day for 5 days x 2 p/d, and we have literally millions of the pills already-
NY was complaining that they only got 10,000 pills? they’ve had what? 500 deaths there? That should have covered all the serious cases easily- plus again, we’re gonna get millions more doses-
Azy is pretty common- been around for forever it seems- I’m thinking millions and millions of doses are given every year to folks- they use it for everything- but yeah, this virus coudl strain the supplies- hopefully they do have enough
yeah but on the flip side we’re seeing folks going in to some hospitals and being extremely sick, not getting tested, and denied the treatment because they haven’t been tested- just an ugly circle of red tape- thankfully this doc is just giving it to everyone that he suspects needs it- I personally think we have plenty of the drug available, and much more on it’s way-
