Amid what it’s calling an “urgent need for blood,” the Food and Drug Administration revised its blood donor guidelines on Thursday, significantly easing the restrictions on men who have sex with men.
The new guidelines reduce the donation deferral period for sexually active gay and bisexual men from 12 months to three, meaning these otherwise healthy men will now have to abstain from same-sex sexual activity for 90 days before they are eligible to donate blood.
Other 12-month deferral periods have also been shortened under the new guidelines, including those for people who have traveled to areas with certain endemic diseases, those who have engaged in injection drug use and people who have participated in commercial sex work.

How is this going to change much? I highly doubt very many homosexuals were waiting a year just to donate blood - the few that actually do donate probably just lie about how long it’s been since they’ve visited the chocolate star.
Personal banking of blood may be a wise option.
If you cannot see that this virus is being used to change the very fabric of America, you are not paying attention.
If you feel giving up American freedom and exceptionalism is wise in the face of a virus, you were never truly taught what it takes to be free.

Poz magazine, about HIV, reported that people infected with HIV age 15 years and die prematurely, whether taking prep meds or not.
I’ve got metastatic signet ring cancer. I can’t, nor would I ever, donate blood and risk giving someone else this nightmare.
I didn’t know they could donate at all, but I read the article the same as you - “how long’s it been?” “a year” “great!”
Hopefully the gay blood will only be used for gay hospital patients? Can I refuse it?

Not neccessarily confirmed, but those at high risk.
A lot of people with HIV are at heightened risk for death or serious complications from respiratory diseases such as tuberculosis. Even without having full blown AIDS.
I’ve been free of mine since 1988.
Well, if he has immunity to COVID-19, apparently his immunity system is still working. So I can see the point, a least vis a vis Covid-19 plasma donations.
