More herd immunity, less herd mentality
The Hill ^ | 04 08 2020 | Ariel Pablos Mendez

Our delayed response to COVID-19 has been rash and driven by fear, not data. This may end up costing us double because health depends on many factors. As we learned in the aftermath of the 2008 market crash, economic shocks have a direct impact on public health. The United States experienced a historical decline in life expectancy due to an epidemic of deaths of despair. In a matter of months, people lost their jobs, lifetime savings, and their homes. A strikingly similar situation is happening now.

Fact is a public health and stable economies go hand in hand. But in the current COVID-19 response, we have pitted these against each other. We either save lives by going on total lockdown or we go back to business as usual and sacrifice the lives of those most at risk. I stand for a middle of the road approach: maximize protection for seniors and vulnerable people, while letting the young and healthy with proven immunity to the virus go back to work. In order to do this, we need more data about immunity.

While we pay attention to the growing number of COVID-19 cases, we are overlooking the fact that there are now nearly 200,000 people worldwide who have recovered from it and survived. Many have yet to be tested, but the majority of survivors are young, healthy and eager to reengage in life and work. We also know that reinfection cases are extremely rare and unlikely.

We don’t know the long term affects of this virus, and some of the “recovered” victims do have heart and lung issues. Can you believe being 20 years old and now have the heart and lungs of a 65 year old?

Its not the flu bro

Our public is mathematically impaired and otherwise dumbed down. They claim to mistrust the media, but hang on its every word. Our leadership blows in the wind, no backbone, no thought. What a mess.

It’s like the 2016 WikiLeaks never happened, isn’t it?

We all saw how every talking point was ordered, agreed upon and shared between the Democrats and their puppet/sycophants in the Media.

The same machine is still operating.

I am looking forward to the public response when people realize these bastards are threatening their lives.

If the virus is that bad, at what point does “essential” get equated to “expendable”? All for a meager wage. Basically we are telling them to be exposed to the virus so they can feed or protect those that are hiding from that same virus. “Atta boys” only last so long.

I have read articles stating that the lung damage is a result of the treatment (veintilators etc) rather than the disease itself.

Don’t be too quick to state theory as fact.

Cowering in fear is existence, not living.

Atta boy to those who choose to LIVE.

So have I seen those comments about intubation. Also got the impression that the intubation was applied too vigorously or used too long.

It IS the flu which can take many different forms. And why pick on the truly, TRULY minuscule number of 20 or 30 somethings who actually suffer lung damage much less even contract the China Virus? Last chart I saw concerning deaths from this flu by age group the kids and young adults were at .02% and that tiny % is of a number of young who contract this flu which itself is barely notable. It's all over hyped bs and its 100% political. Infections ************************************************************

COVID-19: Approximately 1,446,557 cases worldwide; 399,929 cases in the U.S. as of Apr. 8, 2020.*

Flu: Estimated 1 billion cases worldwide; 9.3 million to 45 million cases in the U.S. per year.

Deaths

COVID-19: Approximately 83,149 deaths reported worldwide; 12,911 deaths in the U.S., as of Apr. 8, 2020.*

Flu: 291,000 to 646,000 deaths worldwide; 12,000 to 61,000 deaths in the U.S. per year.

A flubro thread discusses voluntary health-differentiated social distancing. It wants healthy to resume normal activities.

herd immunity requires over 90% infection. If 0.5% death rate per infection are we willing to kill .8*330M*.005 = 1.32 M people. If the death rate is higher, then more die. If it were significantly lower we wouldn’t be having this conversation.
