We know it’s spring, but you may want to dig out your Christmas lights. Denver residents are encouraged to decorate with colorful lights to show their gratitude and support for essential and frontline workers who are keeping us safe and healthy during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Denver City and County Building was lit in red and white lights Thursday night to pay tribute to first responders and medical personnel. Mayor Michael Hancock was joined by Councilwoman Kendra Black and Police Chief Paul Pazen for the lighting ceremony.

Wait a minute. I thought Christmas lights were a “no no” in Woke politics - a waste of energy that ramps up Global Warming.

Encouraged? When will it be made mandatory?

My daughter is an ICU nurse, and she would say this was a really stupid idea.

For some reason here in the Denver area, we are howling at the moon at 8pm every night to support the medical people. Much better than colored lights. Kind of fun to hear it.

“... to show their gratitude and support for essential and frontline workers...”

Good. For a second there, I thought it was an attempt by the Earth Mothers to appease Gaia so she’d remove the Mexican Beer Virus curse.

We had a few people do that in my area. The more annoying thing that finally died off was at 8 PM everyone should ring bells, bang pots and pans, etc. from your prison, er, front door to show solidarity and unity.

When this stuff first began, I suggested to the wife that we pull out the Christmas decorations and pretend we are back in December again! Light the fireplace, put up the tree, deck the halls... Naturally it went over like a led zeppelin.

How about this. Instead of wasting time, energy, and money on lights I went to the grocery store this evening. I bought a few extra items - two bags full - so as not to wipe them out of any particular canned-goods or boxed foods. Then I dropped them off at a local food bank on the way home. That helps my neighbors far more than feel-good lights.

Naturally it went over like a led zeppelin.

I recall that some Denver folks used to keep up Christmas lights through Stock Show time in mid January. Don’t know if that’s still the practice.
