Kentucky’s GOP Legislature Overrides Liberal Governor Bashear’s Veto On Voter ID Requirements

A veto made by Governor Andy Beshear opposing a voter ID law was defeated in the state legislature.

Lawmakers in both the Kentucky House and Senate voted to override Beshear’s veto of SB 2.

Republican state lawmakers called the proposed voter ID law one of their top priorities at the beginning of the 2020 legislative session.

Proponents said it would increase confidence in the state’s elections by preventing fraud, but Democrats are claim that problem doesn’t exist, adding the bill would keep legal voters from heading to the polls.

Voters would need a photo ID to cast a ballot in-person or through the mail. Senate Bill 2 also lays out a process to provide free IDs to people in need.

The debate Tuesday focused on the impacts of the coronavirus on the new rule.

“Our county clerks offices are closed and people cannot go and get a drivers license, even if they wanted one,” Minority Floor Leader Sen. Morgan McGarvey said. “You’re standing here today making it harder for people to vote.”

One of the bills sponsors responded by stating it would not impact the primary elections, now being held in June.

If Libtards are against photo Voter ID because it is “Voter Suppression” why do they want it required to buy a gun? Are they in favor of “Gun Buyer Suppression”? The requirements should be IDENTICAL.

What’s wrong with that, you slobbering moron? What you’re saying is that you want it to be so easy that even illegal aliens have no problem voting eight or ten times.

Traitor.

People used to drive their buggies for miles to vote. Now, most polling sites are within a couple miles of most folks.

Do you need an ID to read a book?
Do you need an ID to be free from cruel and unusual punishment?
Do you need an ID to have a speedy trial or get a lawyer?
It’s so obvious what they’re up to.

I don't see them having a problem with, or complaining about, having to show ID to buy booze or tobacco, or rent a car, etc...

How did KY end up with this jerk as Governor. There’s 4 or 5 Red states that have rat Governors who are damn sorry they let it happen. Fla and Georgia came very close, too damn close.

As a Kentucky resident it pleases me greatly

I believe that the narrow margin Beshear won with over Bevin can accounted for by fraud in Jefferson & Fayette counties.

Louisville and Lexington are uber leftist enclaves.

Next step is for the democrat to call on an Obama judge to rule that it is unconstitutional. They will probably wait until it is too late to overturn before the election.

for too long, the GOP just let the dems run the ship and played nice. I hope the republicans are learning how to do battle with the dems...a party that has gone off the deep end.

Bevin pissed everybody off. Unfairly. The biggest lobby in Ky are the teachers. They were convinced Bevin was gutting their pension fund and salaries. In fact it was this Beshears father and speaker of the house GregbStumbo who spent all the contributions for the last 8 years. Stumbo got beat for AG.
Its like crucified the firemen and electing the arsonist
Im livid. Other than that, our state is beet red.
