Social Security Beneficiaries: You Might Need to Act Now to Get Your Stimulus Check
The Motley Fool ^ | 4/21/2020 | Matthew Frankel

Most Social Security recipients will be paid automatically, but there are some big exceptions.

The U.S. Treasury Department recently announced that Social Security beneficiaries who aren't typically required to file a tax return won't need to take any special action to get a $1,200 stimulus payment. Because of this, most Social Security beneficiaries don't have to take any special action -- the payment will be automatically paid in the same manner as their Social Security benefits.

On the other hand, there are some Social Security recipients who may still need to take action, especially if they want to maximize the amount stimulus check. Here's a quick rundown of the latest guidance from the Social Security Administration (SSA) so you can decide if you need to file some information with the IRS.

The article is basically useless for people who receive a SS check + a retirement pension from their work years.

It seems to focus on people who did not file a return (made less than $12,200) and those with dependent minor kids.

Already got mine. As a retiree with pensions, the downturn has only hurt my investments, not monthly earnings so I redirected some of the stimulus to a Christian food bank ministry in San Antonio as well as stepping up charitable givings around town.

I read an article the other day that said, GENERALLY, the deposits and checks are being sent out to the lowest taxable incomes first, based on recent filings.
Dropped through the cracks are people with income (whatever the source) so low they don’t have to file. They are now the current focus.
Everyone else is in line behind these two groups. In Theory. Those two groups are the kind of people shown in the Trump ad showing Pelosi eating specialty icecream from her two SubZero fridges.

Himself receives a SS check + a retirement pension from his work years.
We file every year.
This year we owed $200 despite being poor as hell.
Lenny’s hip/heart misery from July-September really nailed us as far as bills go and we have a credit card gone to collection even though they didn’t bother to contact me before they did that.
No idea who the collection agency is, and haven’t heard from them in order to work with them and I just found out they can “garnish” our money right out of the bank.
The website STILL says status undetermined for both of us.

WTH?

I’m still not clear on the concept of why people on social security need a “stimulus” check. Did their previous checks bounce or something?

I've asked the same thing. No replies, each time.

I thought this $$ was for folks who'd lost their jobs, or have reduced incomes, due to China Virus shut down.

Agree...did SS and disability checks suddenly stop coming in, during this shut down??

SS is not enough to cover everything, so I keep plugging away with my electronics business.

It’s been declining for several years, but it’s even worse now, so we’ll take the money.

I’m very stimulated. As a retiree on SS, my stimulus check was direct deposited into my checking account on 4/15/20. They got my info from my 2018 tax return or maybe from SS.
