INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) Mayor Joe Hogsett and Dr. Virginia Caine of the Marion County Public Health Department will announce today their intention to maintain local stay-at-home restrictions in Marion County to remain in effect through May 15.
A 10 a.m. news conference is scheduled to address the decision.
Current state and local orders are set to expire on May 1, with Gov. Eric Holcomb and state officials planning to provide guidance on future statewide restrictions in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Indianapolis order would comply "to the greatest extent allowable" with any new statewide orders.
Its clear from talking to state leaders and community stakeholders that the challenges we face here in Indianapolis are unique a city filled with large venues, densely populated neighborhoods, and active business centers," Hogsett said in a Thursday morning news release. "To ensure that we see continued progress in our fight against this virus, we must recommit to our social distancing efforts even as we plan for the future. I appreciate Governor Holcombs partnership as he and his team continue to address the diverse needs of Hoosier communities.

Oh, look - ANOTHER Democrat doing the work of Xi and the CCP by further damaging the US economy...
Time to call for a Caine Mutiny.
The Democrat Party made a deal with President Xi of China to wreck the US economy with the coronavirus to make sure Trump wouldn't get elected.
Can anyone offer advice? Can the mayor of a city issue closures like this unilaterally?
A rat mayor trying to bully the GOP Governor. Taking bets on who folds.
Are the hospitals in his city overloaded? Or is he just another power mad socialist?
“Commie Joe” Hogsett just doing the work of his CCP/DNC puppetmasters.
Hogsett. That says it all.
Ignore, defy. Passive civil disobedience. Live your life. Oh, and organize with your neighbors. If things turn south (I mean more than just fights over toilet paper at the market), its going to turn south fast. Know who has your back.
Shits never ending. Another almost 4 million added to unemployment this week alone. Whats that 35-36 million total now? The predictions of 40 million unemployed by June are not far off.
No and yes.
I hope the other counties open up. Hogsett and his crew still get their paychecks.
I hope Holcomb doesnt fold. We need to get out of this lockdown yesterday.
Indiana is not Iowa type numbers. Indiana got his with the Biogen Conference Strain which likely came from Italy.
Also, Chicago and Michigan with high numbers surround it.
Marion County is hard hit- but not like NYC.
Democrat Mayor is probably doing the right thing
No, he’s doing what democrats are almost all doing nationwide. The day before the state is to make a determination as to where Indiana goes from here he tries to preempt the GOP governor by this action. He’s a political stooge/hack.
The hospitals in Indianapolis and surrounding areas are barely touched. They are NOT being overwhelmed by any measure.
What's even more sinister...while not publicly advertised, the phone recording at Mayor Hogsett's office states that they have a hotline number at which you can report "violations" of the stay-at-home order, 877-820-0890.
I called the mayor's office this morning, and voiced a complaint. I asked about what data they had to support continued lockdowns. The operator was pleasant, but had no answers. Seemed surprised--no one had told her anything about the decision.
Marion County has the highest numbers in Indiana. They should be on lockdown. There are several other counties that should be too. I’m in southern Indiana where there was no need for a lockdown.
Yes, but the majority of deaths have been due to nursing homes being hit. It's unfortunate, but Indiana's population is not among the healthiest in the country.
Marion County has not been hit that hard, and I say that as a resident. Hospitals are not overrun, and it's time to re-open. In phases, if needed, but let's re-open.
The polidiots will string believers along to keep power. This is never going to end well.
