Dr. Fauci Says Evidence ‘Very Strongly’ Shows Virus Did Not Originate in Wuhan Lab
Epoch Times ^ | 05/05/2020 | Tom Ozimek

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the country’s top infectious disease expert and member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, rejected the notion that the CCP virus, the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19, originated in a Chinese lab.

Fauci made the remarks to The National Geographic in an in-depth interview that ranged from virus origin theories to lighter topics prompted by questions like “Wow, how do you unwind?”

Asked whether he believed the virus was made in—or accidentally released from—a Chinese lab, Fauci said there was overwhelming evidence it came from the wild.

“If you look at the evolution of the virus in bats, and what’s out there now is very, very strongly leaning toward this [virus] could not have been artificially or deliberately manipulated,” he said, adding that the mutation pattern of the virus is highly suggestive of a natural origin.

“A number of very qualified evolutionary biologists have said that everything about the stepwise evolution over time strongly indicates that it evolved in nature and then jumped species,” the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases said.

A widespread theory, reiterated by Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Tuesday, is that the virus made the leap from animal to human at one of Wuhan’s wildlife wet markets.

Some claim the virus occurred naturally but was brought into the Wuhan lab for study, from where it escaped, a theory Fauci dismissed as a “circular argument.”

“That means it was in the wild to begin with. That’s why I don’t get what they’re talking about [and] why I don’t spend a lot of time going in on this circular argument,” he said.

Ah....just the fact that there is a circular argument tells me that Fauci wants it his way or nothing.

ANd...

The Information Army of Northern Virginia beg to differ with Dr. Fauci:

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16115318/
https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(20)30251-8/fulltext

When the protein sequence of the SARS-CoV-2 receptor binding site was analyzed, an interesting result was found. While SARS-CoV-2 is overall more similar to bat coronaviruses, the receptor binding site was more similar to SARS-CoV.
https://www.cell.com/cell/fulltext/S0092-8674(20)30262-2?_returnURL=https%3A%2F%2Flinkinghub.elsevier.com%2Fretrieve%2Fpii%2FS0092867420302622%3Fshowall%3Dtrue

Both SARS-CoV-2 and SARS-CoV use the same host cell receptor. It also found that, for both viruses, the viral proteins used for host cell entry bind to the receptor with the same tightness (affinity).

•COVERED WITH SPIKES to ensure it latches onto those host cells

•LETHAL, especially in elderly people. How convenient since China’s #1 economic issue facing them is their surging elderly population

•STEALTHY, able to be spread by people who show no symptoms at all, or none for 14 days, ensuring maximum spread.

•EXTREMELY EASY to transmit through air and on surfaces ensuring maximum spread

•HARD TO KILL - as it will survive for days on various surfaces and through high temperatures, ensuring maximum spread

•NOT TREATABLE with the normal methods used to treat flu and pneumonia, therefore using up HUGE medical resources, which can easily break a nation financially

•DOESN’T INFECT ANIMALS - this is the big one. What better biological weapon than one that kills all the humans and leaves behind the animals!

Yeahhhh, this was some random virus from bats. Wasn’t tweaked in a lab AT ALL.

Dr. Fauci, for what price did you sell your soul to the CCP to spout this nonsense?

If this virus was naturally occurring, we would have seen a series of outbreaks that gradually increase in size as the virus mutates and gains the needed ACE-2 receptor affinity in order to infect humans.

This from the guy who sent millions of dolars to this lab to investigate and experiment with coronaviruses.

I don’t see any bias/conflict of interest in his statement at all.

he sure wishes it didn’t originate there. i dont think hes telling the truth. not when the aids scientists have reviewed this and believe its manmade.

I have noticed that Fauci goes in front of the media to make a controversial comment when his 15 minutes of fame starts cooling down.

He is more of a rat politician than he is a doctor.

Last time he toned it down for a bit when Pres. Trump smacked him down on social media.

He has no manners and has worn out his welcome. Most people would've realized that and bowed out but he's a Narcissist.

true, but i didn’t think fauci had a law degree

he just might!

but this is an excellent point, the words were chosen extremely carefully.

basically this means it wasn’t created from scratch. doesnt mean it didn’t get released from the lab.

Why does this matter? Seems to me the issue to be addressed is China’s duplicity vis a vis the world community. That duplicity isn’t dependent on the source, whether a bat, cat or bioweapons lab. Matter to Dr. Fauci. What’s going on in the Wuhan labs is a matter to the intelligence community. Who should pursue it. Not Dr. Fauci. Also an issue to be clarified, our aid to China for the Wuhan lab in 2015, said to be triggered by a law passed in 2014 banning research on militarizing certain virus’ and other bioweapons. If that’s true, how stupid were we to bypass Congress by cooperating with China on a weapons program.

Not my specialty, but I believe there has to be some kind of vector between species. If so, how did it come from animal to humans? Does this lead back to the Chinese “wet markets?”
**********************************************
Two things. I believe
I read that bats were “not on the menu” at Wuhan’s “wet market”. And 2nd, the type of bat which hosted this virus lived in a cave some 900 miles from Wuhan and a Chinese woman who collected bats to study their viruses went to that cave, collected the bats and returned with them to the Wuhan lab.

The “wet market” theory was simply a cover story put out by the Chicoms.

But how did it jump from a distant cave to Wuhan? Horseshoe bats aren’t sold in the wet markets. The cave where the horseshoe bats live is hidden...and a long distance from where the outbreak began.

One possible explanation was that a researcher was somehow infected in the cave, and brought the virus back to Wuhan with them. But no one has suggested that yet.

This clown strikes me as a Bond-villain type and I wouldn’t be surprised if he had a hand in developing this virus.

Note he’s saying “did not originate”.

He said nothing about “came from”.

Exactly. The media is trying to obscure the difference. Why would they do that?

Because the likelihood is it was a natural virus that they extracted from bats and it escaped from the lab.

Eventually I think a full genetic sequence will show that the virus is natural.

In the meantime if they can obscure the difference between "escaped from the lab" and "was bio-engineered in the lab" then when the final genetic analysis is in they will use it to say case closed.

So in the meantime, there's no need to argue that it was bio-engineered. If it was (doubtful) that will eventually come out. There's too many copies of the virus around the world to hide its genetic sequence.

Stick to what's obvious: it escaped from the lab.

If the truth is even worse than that, then it will be worse.

This guy has a vested interest in playing down the lab theory.

He’s conflicted to the point I think it’s actionable.
