House passes $3T coronavirus relief -- the most expensive bill in history

The House of Representatives on Friday evening passed a $3 trillion coronavirus relief bill, the most expensive legislation approved by that body in history, that Democrats hailed as the unprecedented response needed to deal with the pandemic and its economic fallout.

The record-breaking bill narrowly passed by a 208-199 vote. Fourteen Democrats defied their party and voted "no," while one Republican, Rep. Pete King of New York, broke with the GOP and voted “yes.”

“I’m thrilled," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said after the bill's passage. "I'm so proud of my members. They just did something so monumental for the American people -- for their health, for their lives, for their livelihood, and for our democracy. We couldn’t be more thrilled."

May we assume, if it makes it to Trump’s desk, that he will veto this democrat wet dream?

Before that, is the Senate going to rubber-stamp this monstrosity?

The pandemic is not the cause of our economic problems. Politicians are.

Same old kabuki theater. The House lobbyists write up their bill which goes to the Senate lobbyists for their version which goes into conference where the lobbyists all get together for the finished product.
Meanwhile on center stage Hollywood for ugly people is out in force. All 535 making fine speeches and passionate pleas on a bill they have absolutely no clue what's in it and could care less. Hogs feeding at the public troughs, one marked "D" and one marked "R" being filled from the same source.

It's nothing new. The Romans perfected it centuries ago.

This cartoon was from the Great Depression. It was quite a task finding any anti-FDR cartoons from that time because that tyrant attacked such opposition. How many times is it necessary to prove spending won't get us out of a recession?

They just did something so monumental for the American people — for their health, for their lives, for their livelihood, and for our democracy.

We are no longer a REPUBLIC!!!

It’s easy to find a million articles stating the senate Rs who said this is DOA.

But I have no life and keep up with every article all day :)

It’s dead jim.

But there will be something down the line.

And that’s what scares me

“So much of what’s in this bill simply has nothing at all to do with the current crisis,” said Rep. Tom Cole, R-Okla. “It’s more like a liberal Christmas ... wish list. It would make more sense ... to just send it straight to Santa Claus than to send it to the United States Senate. It would have a better chance of becoming law that way.”

The details of the massive 1,815-page legislation have been negotiated by Democratic leadership in private and without public hearings.

I don’t know whether or not to save the Monopoly money they’re giving me or buy guns and ammunition.

I have the feeling only one of those is going to be worth anything in the near future.
