My local newspaper is full of leftwing communists who use that bully pulpit to spew leftists propaganda and execute information warfare.

It not only should die, it must die.

"...But I can tell you that, during my career, professional standards were definitely higher in the hometown press..."

I would definitely think so. In a big organization like the lettered news media entities, they are so big and run by Leftists, that there would be less ownership and responsibility. In a smaller, regional press, the decisions on what to print and how to say it or slant it rest in the hands of more accessible people, I would think. At places like NBC, they have people up the chain who are largely immune and insulated from the ramifications of their Leftist proclivities.

A dear friend, now passed on, ended a 30 year, award winning career w the Boston Globe in the late sixties. One day he just snapped “I quit, you’re all a bunch of effin communists”. He told me once “when newspapermen became journalists that was the end of it”. He went on to bigger things in state government, which ended when Dukakis asked him why he refused to work for him. “Because Mike, you’re stupid”. Not making those guys anymore.

I am daily drenched in the backwash of the Boston Globe (some of us conservatives around these parts refer to it derisively as the “Boston Glob”

You’re right...guys like that aren’t in that business anymore. Sadly.

OMG!!!! How in the hell have I survived in my same community for 35 years and NEVER read a local newspaper here???? Am I dead or just a hologram??? /sarc

And two parts of the opening statements stand in stark contrast to each other - “During this coronavirus pandemic, access to accurate and trustworthy information” vs “Your local newspaper provides news and information unique to your community”. The political bias of the editors and authors inserted into the later makes the former impossible.

Lastly, the handwriting on the wall spelling out the financial death of local print media began in earnest many years ago and has had nothing to with the Wuhan Virus. The ad revenue has gone to where the readership traffic went - the Internet.

There are things we don’t actually like about that - the massive capturing and selling of personal data - but that is a separate issue. The death of print news media is what it is and the Wuhan Virus cannot be used as an excuse for it.

“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.” George Orwell

Sure, give the newspapers money with this qualifier: Nazis, communists and democrats need not apply.
