Horowitz: The CDC confirms remarkably low coronavirus death rate. Where is the media?

Most people are more likely to wind up six feet under because of almost anything else under the sun other than COVID-19.

The CDC just came out with a report that should be earth-shattering to the narrative of the political class, yet it will go into the thick pile of vital data and information about the virus that is not getting out to the public. For the first time, the CDC has attempted to offer a real estimate of the overall death rate for COVID-19, and under its most likely scenario, the number is 0.26%. Officials estimate a 0.4% fatality rate among those who are symptomatic and project a 35% rate of asymptomatic cases among those infected, which drops the overall infection fatality rate (IFR) to just 0.26% — almost exactly where Stanford researchers pegged it a month ago.

Until now, we have been ridiculed for thinking the death rate was that low, as opposed to the 3.4% estimate of the World Health Organization, which helped drive the panic and the lockdowns. Now the CDC is agreeing to the lower rate in plain ink.

Plus, ultimately we might find out that the IFR is even lower because numerous studies and hard counts of confined populations have shown a much higher percentage of asymptomatic cases. Simply adjusting for a 50% asymptomatic rate would drop their fatality rate to 0.2% – exactly the rate of fatality Dr. John Ionnidis of Stanford University projected.

More importantly, as I mentioned before, the overall death rate is meaningless because the numbers are so lopsided. Given that at least half of the deaths were in nursing homes, a back-of-the-envelope estimate would show that the infection fatality rate for non-nursing home residents would only be 0.1% or 1 in 1,000. And that includes people of all ages and all health statuses outside of nursing homes. Since nearly all of the deaths are those with comorbidities.

The CDC estimates the death rate from COVID-19 for those under 50 is 1 in 5,000 for those with symptoms, which would be 1 in 6,725 overall, but again, almost all those who die have specific comorbidities or underlying conditions. Those without them are more likely to die in a car accident. And schoolchildren, whose lives, mental health, and education we are destroying, are more likely to get struck by lightning.

Moreover, a great miracle has happened here!

There are no death certificates stating COD coronary disease.

There are no death certificates stating COD diabetic complication,

There are no death certificates stating COD chronic respiratory disorder.

What a wonder COVID 19 has wrought!

I just went thru the link sequence. This is what is in the actual CDC report:

The parameters in the scenarios:

Are estimates intended to support public health preparedness and planning.

Are not predictions of the expected effects of COVID-19.

Do not reflect the impact of any behavioral changes, social distancing, or other interventions.

Note the second item. This report is for modelers and planners. It is not a measurement of anything at all. It’s not even a best guess of anything other than what parameters should be in modeling.

This whole “it’s not very serious” stuff needs to start out explaining the single critical info: For essentially every country of the world, over the relevant months, total deaths in countries for these months far exceed the deaths in those countries for the same months historically. And it’s not even close to being the same.

Something is killing a lot of extra people in these months. It’s not likely to be something you would call not serious.

I wish I knew how to undo all the trauma the media and Fauci, et. al. have wreaked on several people I know. Several family members and several friends are so scared to come out of their foxholes. They are sure that because they may have conditions like asthma (as a child) or mitral valve prolapse that they are forever to stay at their homes, otherwise they will die a most horrible death. Several of these haven’t even ventured out to the grocery store even, or to get take out from a restaurant. It’s so sad. I don’t even know what to say to them anymore. I have the feeling that the last time I saw these different people was the last time I’ll actually get to see them in person and even give a hug. Some I saw before Christmas for a holiday party, and others a week before all hell broke loose in late February. No more family get togethers, no friendly visits. I blame the Dems, the media (redundant, yes), and that medical bureaucrat, “Dr” Fauci.

Yeah, the nursing home rates were horrifying. Otherwise, not bad numbers.

OTOH, flu is a terrible curse and we don’t need another one, courtesy of the CCP.
If the flu was a ‘new’ disease we’d go all out to stop it.

I’m hopeful that this pandemic will lead to a cure for colds and flus. That would be GREAT!

Thanks for looking into that. (Being a traditionalist Freeper I didn’t even read the article).
Those ‘excess deaths’ are a worry.

“It is not a measurement of anything at all.”

Yup, it’s all just interpretation, the reading in of whatever significance the beholder desires.
That the CDC is now considered the go-to trustworthy and reliable source is an interesting 180 development.

We should have never shut down

This R0 is that for a bad flu. Had NY and NJ treated nursing homes the way Florida did the death toll may have been even lower. We can never be sure

“Something is killing a lot of extra people in these months. It’s not likely to be something you would call not serious.”

If you’re speaking of those in Nursing or other congregant living homes, I would agree. Those over age 70 with comorbidities, I would agree.

Take precautions and take care of yourself.

Everyone else can resume life as normal, and should have done so yesterday!

I really really think that once we look at a whole year of deaths from every source, I pretty much doubt we'll see an extraordinary number of deaths....but it has to be at least a year before we can say there were more deaths...covid killed people that probably would have died within the yr from stroke or cancer or heart attack....

We have known it kills the old more than the young since early China days.

That has never been the point. Cancer kills the old far more than the young. The difference? As follows:

Absolutely everyone who has no elderly parents or grandparents can go about their lives as they were before. In fact, even more than that. Everyone who even has elderly parents or grandparents can go about their lives as before — as long as they are sure they will never be in the same room with their parents or grandparents again until there is an 80% effective vaccine or cure.
