Amid the grim coronavirus news of death and unemployment, at least there is the comic relief of the left embracing the Tenth Amendment. Suddenly trendy is the provision of the Bill of Rights that “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.”

The rush to the Tenth came in response to President Trump’s statement on May 22. “I call upon governors to allow our churches and places of worship to open right now,” Mr. Trump said. “The governors need to do the right thing and allow these very important, essential places of faith to open right now, for this weekend. If they don’t do it, I will override the governors.”

Clara Jeffrey, the editor of Mother Jones, a left leaning magazine, wasn’t having it. “To be clear, Trump can't do [expletive] to force churches/temples/mosques to open. Little thing called the 10th Amendment,” she tweeted.

Yep. He can’t force them to, but the choice shod be up to them. If WalMart, Home Depop or grocers stores can be open, so can a church.

People's prayers must be working so some people think closing down churches will stop people from praying.

Newsflash...that isn't how prayer works. Churches are simply where people congregate. It's not the only place where people pray.

JMO, YMMV

Finally an acknowledgement of the amendments to the Constitution.

If they are going to draw the 10th amendment like a weapon I guess the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th amendments take their literally interpreted place as well.

Can’t have it both ways commie, socialist bas#$^ds. All gun laws are hereby null and void. The BATF is dismantled onto the dust heap and the USA is a free country again.

I about busted a gut laughing when I saw a tweet from the (morbidly obese) Yamichi Alcindor:

“Pres Trump says he will ‘override the governors’ if they don’t follow new CDC guidance and open places of worship this weekend. Context: The 10th Amendment of the Constitution says powers not delegated to federal government are reserved to the states,”

The left’s position means that Eisenhower had no right to enforce the 13th-15th amendments in Mobile Alabama.

The 10th amendment does not apply in this case. The President has the right and duty to enforce the Constitution of the United States and it’s amendments. If the governors of the various states impose lockdowns on religous services the President can force the governors to restore the people’s Civil Rights under the supremacy clause. (Article VI, para. 2)

Well, if states keep churches locked up...they are violating the first ammendant.

Never underestimate their hypocrisy and capacity for doublethink.

To them, laws mean whatever they want them to at the moment.

“To be clear, Trump can't do [expletive] to force churches/temples/mosques to open. Little thing called the 10th Amendment,” she tweeted.

A little thing called the First Amendment makes "free exercise of religion" a civil right protected by the Constitution.

She's saying the federal government has no power to punish civil rights violations?

Actually President Trump can open businesses under the commerce clause. SC ruling to back that up. When it comes to churches and other Constitutional rights being violated, Trump can have them arrested under 18 USC 242. Depriving rights under the color of law. Big penalties.

Articles and amendments of the Constitution are only useful when they are useful.

The federal government has been ignoring the 10th amendment for over 150 years. Leftists have always supported that. Hilarious to see them suddenly discover it now.

Does this mean that the federal government is not responsible for bailing out tax and spend governors’ deficits?
