First, I don’t think anybody is defending a police officer putting their knee into the neck of a suspect. That officer should not be on any police force. I think the four officers were fired in an ill-fated attempt to stop a riot. I can’t believe that the district attorney would have made that comment just off the cuff. I think that is a very deliberate way of laying the groundwork to lower expectations for an indictment. Having prosecuted and defended dozens of murder cases, I know from experience that prosecutors don’t make those kinds of statements lightly. I keep cautioning everybody to keep an open mind. My suspicion is that the autopsy was not favorable to a prosecution. But we will find out soon enough.

Of course the autopsy doesn’t support a murder charge. The guy died of COVID-19. :-P

He later said he was. misinterpreted. Talking generically and. not about specific evidence related to this case.
