Walnut Creek (CA) quickly imposes curfew after woman is shot, as East Bay cities grapple with looting across shopping centers

The city of Walnut Creek (California - San Francisco East Bay Area) quickly imposed a curfew Sunday evening after a woman was shot in the city’s downtown and hundreds of people gathered there and at shopping centers around the East Bay in a widespread looting frenzy.

The young woman was among the crowds near Walnut Creek’s Broadway Plaza shopping corridor and was shot near Koja Kitchen restaurant...

At around 5:42 p.m., a single shot could be heard as cars were trying to make their way west on Olympic towards Locust, honking, a block from the Apple store, as a groups of looters were running up the sidewalk and darting in and around traffic.

The woman, who had been hit in the arm with a bullet...

Walnut Creek City Manager Dan Buckshi said he believed she was shot by another person who had been involved in the area looting, but did not say whether a suspect had been arrested.

...curfew from 6 p.m. that will stretch until 5 a.m. the following day. After that, it will begin nightly at 8 p.m. through 5 a.m. until Monday, June 8. City officials have also asked businesses to close...

...people are not allowed to be on public streets, avenues, alleys, parks or other public areas between the curfew hours. Violating the order is punishable as a misdemeanor. People may also be given administrative citations for violating it.

The shooting came as hundreds — mostly young people — spread out throughout Walnut Creek, San Leandro and elsewhere in the East Bay, many breaking into stores with hammers and coming out with bags of belongings.

Walnut Creek is still locked down for COVID and now has nightly curfew.

My daughter and her boyfriend got back tonight from an eight day trip to Idaho to visit my wife and drove into the police cordon in Walnut Creek where they live. She says they now wish they had stayed another week in Idaho.

Walnut Creek is (or was) a nice, peaceful suburban town. It’s not good this crap is starting in the suburbs.

Strong and prompt police reaction. This has been long overdue.

....These THUGS are dishonoring the memory of George Floyd, and I won’t let that happen. Just spoke to Governor Tim Walz and told him that the Military is with him all the way. Any difficulty and we will assume control but, when the looting starts, the shooting starts. Thank you!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 29, 2020

People were told only a civil war was going stop the left, a war that only the left was fighting, and most responded saying the idea was ridiculous. We may have no other choice.

many breaking into stores with hammers

That's an Antifa signature. Showing up at "protests" armed with hammers and accelerants...

About 10 miles away from my wife’s only family still living in California. Yikes.

The strategy of the looters is to hit the store goods, then firebomb the place with accelerant to cover up any clues as to who they are. The containers of gasoline are pre-packaged by the organized instigators and distributed about a block or two away when certain stores are scheduled to be looted.

Here's a Twitter link to a video by a eyewitness poster showing the gasoline containers being passed out:

Also, another observation is that there are a lot of white youths running around with the rioters, particularly young girls. I don't see that being reported, do I?

I thought the military had a microwave weapon. “Blow’d the head clean off”, might be real.

Thanks for information...

Richmond PD...In the San Francisco Bay area...I am not too surprised that there are problems in City of Richmond...

Thugs are stealing things in San Leandro...

Curfew in Walnut Creek...I was surprised...
It is possible that thugs, living in Alameda County, decided to go to Walnut Creek and create problems...I am talking about cities like Oakland and Hayward...I am sure there are many thugs in those cities...

I am glad to hear that you and your family are doing fine at this time...

I have friends who live in Alameda County...They live in nice cities...One friend sent me a text message about Monday...Rioters are expected to show up at his city on Monday...

You all are stealing our black folks from the SF Peninsula. Used to be that Walnut Creek was lily white. SF a few decades back was 16 percent black; now it's down to about 5 or 6 percent black. You're stealing our diversity! (Went shopping today in South San Francisco and San Bruno, lots of shoppers out, apparently they're all buying goods in peace.)

And why were they allowed to walk freely through the streets with hammers breaking windows and doors walking into places and stealing things from inside and leaving and why were they not arrested by the police department

Rick Leventhal said on Fox there are reports of Antifa, etc pre-positioning cars in the areas they plan to hit, and get the accelerant supplies from there.
Maybe bricks, too, I suppose, if they don’t have a pre-delivered pallet.

Clearly domestic terrorism.

We know those shoppers in San Bruno and South San Fran weren’t hitting the gun shops.

The Mercury News story is verrrry
carefully worded, I notice.
Impossible to tell if the woman who was shot was a looter or peaceful protester.

There were some rare anomalies in Walnut Creek around 25 years ago. A friend used to eat at a taqueria there but stopped after it was nicknamed, for obvious reasons, “Stabberia”.

No place is totally safe from deranged out-of-towners. Even sleepy Orinda had a shooting incident a couple of years ago at an AirBnB rented house “party”.
