LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man is dead following a shooting on 26th and Broadway by Dino's Food Mart in the Russell neighborhood.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear released a statement on his Twitter page early Monday morning saying he has authorized Kentucky State Police to lead the investigation.

Statement from Governor Andy Beshear:

LMPD Chief Steve Conrad says police and the National Guard were called to Dino's Food Mart at around midnight to help clear a large crowd that had gathered in the parking lot. Officers were met with gunfire while clearing the lot, according to Conrad. Both LMPD and the National Guard returned fire. One man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are interviewing persons of interest and will continue to investigate the incident. No further information was given. Chief Conrad said LMPD will provide an update sometime on Monday after video is reviewed.

Conrad also addressed recent protests during the press conference saying, "I think it's very, very clear that many people do not trust the police. That is an issue that we're going to have to work on and work through for a long time."

This story will be updated.

The police were fired on, they fired back, some unlucky bastard was killed, case closed. The Governor needs to be thrown out of office.

I miss the old days when crazy people burned bras and streaked naked through Congress instead of burning buildings.

The police and the National Guard have the right of self defense.

“The police were fired on, they fired back, some unlucky bastard was killed, case closed. The Governor needs to be thrown out of office.”

Here's my question: will the governor press for fellow-rioters who were on the scene to be charged with felony murder?

People had nothing to do for 3 months and used the first excuse they could to riot. Couldn’t have seen this coming...

“The Governor needs to be thrown out of office.”

He’s a moron who was elected because he refused to back state and teachers pension reform in a state with a failed system.

The deficit is so huge, it could dwarf Jupiter.

So far, Kentucky has the title for most police shootings in this current riot crisis.

I think one rioter shot dead is a good start.

People in the Russell neighborhood West End of Louisville were not affected by the three month lockdown. 98% of Russell residents live off of government assistance and have never held a job. When the rioting started they were given a new purpose. If you already have a criminal record what’s it matter if you loot and steal some cigarettes, liquor, and maybe a tv.

I heard that the guy that was killed was the owner of the bar-b-cue stand at the filling station. Probably not a rioter, just unlucky to be in line of fire.
