There is time for China to reconsider, there is a moment for China to step back from the brink and respect Hong Kongs autonomy and respect Chinas own international obligations, British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab told parliament.
The sad reality is that if China continues down this track, it will be strangling what has long been the jewel in the economic crown, Raab said, when asked about the future of the Hong Kong dollar peg.
Raab said the security law was in breach of the one country, two systems principle enshrined in the 1984 Sino-British Joint Declaration, and also conflicted with Article 23 of Chinas own basic law.
If it goes ahead, Raab said the United Kingdom will form an alliance of countries to resist China, whose $14 trillion economy dwarfs every Western economy apart from the United States which has a $21.4 trillion economy.
Raab said the United Kingdom could not coerce China but would seek to persuade it to change course.
If China does not change course, British National Overseas passport-holders in Hong Kong will be offered a path to British citizenship.

The world needs to shun China and then the people of China would take their country away from the CCP.
Or what?
They’ll unleash more mixed-metaphors on them.
You abandoned them to the ChiComs, it was only a matter of time that bore fruit.
If the UK is concerned about that, they had better throw ALL their support behind President Trump—and fast!
Duh, we didn’t see this coming?
You’ve never strangled a jewel before?
Or what?

There is a movement in the 4-Is (excluding the US) to form one country. Kind of a Federation. Called the CANZUK movement it is fairly popular. It is interesting that the type 26 frigate is being built by and for UK, Canada & Australia it is a sign of greater unity. Should they and New Zealand join to form one country it will have the largest land mass, half of the population and GNP of the US. And if it forged close alliances with the US and India as well as the ASEAN countries act as the glue to keep the Western Alliance together. There is certainly reason to, as China is bullying both Australia and Canada. Other former British colonies would also look for closer ties such as Singapore, India, various countries in Africa. The British may be stogy, class oriented, royalists but they were and are much better than the Chinese. Plus they have been close and loyal allies since 1914.
Exactly my question. What is puny Britain going to do about it? Make them cringe by showing their ghastly smiles and halitosis?
or what? Seriously London, whatcha gonna do? Grow a sack! Let’s here it?
Like the people of North Korea have done?
China doesn’t care what any nation thinks, if that nation can’t hurt them.
They'll send the Dalek.
