Back in 1994, I visited Paris. Down at the Eiffel Tower, I saw plenty of big CRS riot cops. My tour guide told me that these guys were real head-breakers--and they looked it.
But, if their leaders are poltroons, what good is their toughness?

The French signed their own death warrant long ago. What most people remember as France simply no longer exists.

If the cops would just pull out their guns and shoot a couple of these rioters...

France is where America was demographically in the 1980s. It’s really bad in Paris and Marseilles but if you go out to the countryside it’s not too bad.
It’s weird how as their demographics shift their political discourse sounds like America’s during the 80s.

The CRS troops are brought in from outside Paris so that they will have little allegiance with Paris citizens. The French consider them to be "country bumpkins".
I work for a French company and have spent a lot of time in France all over the country.

Are those squirt guns in those holsters? At least they tried unlike our big city heroes and mayors.
Bring in the Foreign Legion already...problem solved.
Or borrow the Ghurkas from the Brits.

I was there a year after you. Chirac had just been elected. I was having dinner at Fouquets on the Champs D’Elysee. That night was the French soccer championship. PSG won. Turned out they headed to Fouquets for celebration. A huge boisterous crowd was gathering outside. A small army of cops were also there for security. I asked my waiter what was going on. He explained. Soon the team marches in with trophy in hand. The whole restaurant stands up and applauds and the team heads to some VIP area. We resume eating. The crowd and cops remain outside. Getting out of that place was quite the maneuver. Barracades everywhere. The local metro stations were closed. We had to take a cab back to the hotel. Plenty of your head breakers were there that night.

You expect me to believe that? I went to the Eiffel Tower in 1994 too, and I didn’t see you. :)
