After some Atlanta police officers call out, mayor asks them to honor commitment to community

Atlanta (CNN)Hours after a fired police officer was charged with felony murder for fatally shooting a man in the back, Atlanta police officers are not responding to calls in three of the department's six zones, multiple sources within the Atlanta Police Department told CNN on Wednesday evening. Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard earlier in the day announced 11 charges against Garrett Rolfe, who was fired after he shot Rayshard Brooks twice in the back on Friday night. A third shot hit a car with three people inside.

The police department said an unusual number of officers working the late shift had called out sick. The mayor said the city would be OK. "There's a lot happening in our cities and our police officers are receiving the brunt of it, quite frankly," Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms told CNN's Chris Cuomo. She said the city has committed to the officers through a big pay raise, and "we expect that our officers will keep their commitment to our communities."

She said she thinks morale is down tenfold.

How about when the mayor honors them instead of instantly firing and a DA charging them without an investigation??

and Floyd was murdered
A little to quick to judge. You might eat those words someday.

I made that comment due to much experience and from watching the video myself. That is an educated opinion based on many years of experience.

When you snap the cuffs on someone you are then responsible for their lives. Like it or not that is long standing SCOUTUS based accepted law. While responsible for Floyd’s life the officer directly caused the death of Mr Floyd long after there was any possible resistance.

That makes it not only a homicide but a murder.

“we expect that our officers will keep their commitment to our communities.”

All the while she and the city council plot means and ways to destroy the credibility and trust of the police department...

But “we expect that our officers will keep their commitment to our communities,” she said. What person would put his freedom and his family well being on the line that if you do something they could charge you with murder. Only a fool would take that chance. maybe she should have a talk with the corrupt prosecutor who is being investigated for stealing money and sexual assault.

When incompetent officials are in charge it leads to very bad morale and outcomes like this. I don’t blame them. The mayor and DA needs fired. Maybe then they’ll come back. But that’s just me. My posts on FR over the years have been opposing some police activity and unions as much as in support.
